Balitoridae, the hillstream loaches or river loaches, is a family, of small fish from South, Southeast and East Asia. The family includes about 202 species. They are sometimes sold as "lizardfish" or "flossensaugers". Many of the species are popular for aquaria, species in the genus Sewellia are most commonly sold in the aquaria trade. They have a number of similarities with the Cobitidae, their sibling family of "loaches", such as multiple barbels around the mouth. They should not be confused with the loricariids, which look similar but are a family of catfish.

It occurs in small streams with a moderate current where it moves slowly in shoals along the substrate. Its diet consists of filamentous algae and insects. The type locality is in Zhanyi County.
Petruichthys brevis, common name Inle loach, is one of two species of ray-finned fish in the genus Petruichthys, although some authorities place it in the genus Yunnanilus. It is only found in Inle Lake and the adjacent He-Ho Plain in the Southern Shan States in Myanmar. It is a demersal fish which occurs in still and slow running waters as well as in a shallow lake, with dense submerged and floating vegetation.
Paranemachilus jinxiensis is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach in the genus Paranemachilus. It is found in the Pearl River drainage in Guangxi and its type locality is Ludon village in Jingxi County, its specific name refers to Jingxi County.
Eonemachilus obtusirostris is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach in the genus Eonemachilus. Its type locality is the West Dragon Spring, which flows into Fuxian Lake in Chengjiang County, Yunnan. In the past this species was classified in the genus Yunnanilus, although it was thought that it may have been in Heminoemacheilus rather than Yunnanilus. The specific name is a compound of the Latin rostrum meaning a "beak" and obtusus meaning "blunt", this refers to the species' short snout.
Micronemacheilus pulcherrimus is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach, in the genus Micronemacheilus. It is found in the Hongshuihe River, part of the Xijiang River basin in China, with the type locality in Du'an County, Guangxi. The specific name pulcherrimus means most beautiful and is a reference to the “unique” banded color pattern ofthin vertical stripes crossing a wide lateral band, when compared to related species.
Acanthocobitis pavonacea, also known as the spearfin loach, is a species of ray-finned fish belonging to the family Nemacheilidae, the stone loaches. This species is found in the Brahmaputra River ofAssam. This is one of two species in the genus Acanthocobitis, alongside the type species, A. longipinnis. A. longipennis was treated as synonym of this species but in 2021 Maurice Kottelat and Waikhom Vishwanath published a paper that argued that A. longipennis was a valid species and that it was one of two species ofloach in the genus Acanthocobitis, alongside A. pavonacea, with the other species being classified in the genus Paracanthocobitis. This species is the type species of the genus Acanthocobitis.

This species was first formally described in 1861 by the German naturalist and explorer Wilhelm Peters and Peters proposed the new genus Acanthocobitis. Later authors treated this species as a synonym of Cobitis pavonacea but in 2021 Maurice Kottelat and Waikhom Vishwanath published a paper that argued that A. longipennis was a valid species and that it was one of two species of loach in the genus Acanthocobitis, alongside A. pavonacea, with the other species being classified in the genus Paracanthocobitis. This species is the type species of the genus Acanthocobitis.
Kayahschistura is a monospecific genus of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Nemacheilidae, the stone loaches. The only species in the genus is Kayahschistura lokalayensis, a cave fish which is known from two caves in the Hpruso District of the Kayah State in Myanmar.
Malihkaia is a monospecific genus of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Nemacheilidae, the stone loaches. The only species in the genus is Malihkaia aligera. This species was foirsy formalled described in 2017 by the Swiss ichthyologist Maurice Kottelat with its type locality given as the Mali Hka River, about 9 km upstream of Kang Mu Lon on the Kachin State of Myanmar at 27°25'54"N, 97°27'56"E from an elevation of 402 m (1,319 ft).
