Mackerel is a common name applied to a number of different species of pelagic fish, mostly from the family Scombridae. They are found in both temperate and tropical seas, mostly living along the coast or offshore in the oceanic environment.

This species is endemic to the endorheic drainage system which feeds the Datangzi Marsh in Luoping County, Yunnan, the marsh has been formed by the outflow of a stream from its underground course. It is a demersal species and the waters where it was found were densely vegetated, it feeds on worms and insects. It is sympatric with Yunnanilus niger and Y, paludosus, forming a small species flock. It lays eggs which it does not guard.

Protomelas pleurotaenia is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is only known from Monkey Bay and Nkhata Bay where it is known to occur from the surface to 10 metres (33 ft). This species can reach a length of 14.1 centimetres (5.6 in) TL. This species can also be found in the aquarium trade.
Pseudanthias pleurotaenia also known as the squarespot anthias, pink square anthias, mirror basslet or squarespot fairy basslet is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the subfamily Anthiinae of the family Serranidae, the groupers and sea basses. This species of Pseudanthias is a reef dwelling fish of the Pacific Ocean. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade and grows to a size of 20 cm in length. The males are deep pink and orange in colour with a large quadrilateral purplish blotch on the flank, a red tip on the posterior margin of the dorsal fin, the caudal fin lobes have mauve tips and there is a reddish stripe which runs from the snout through the eye and through the base of the pectoral fin to the base of the tail. Females and juveniles are yellowish in colour with orange edges to their scales and they have two purple stripes which run from the eye along the lower flanks to the base of the tail.
Yunnanilus brevis, common name Inle loach, is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Yunnanilus, although some authorities place it in the genus Petruichthys. It is only found in Inle Lake and the adjacent He-Ho Plain in the Southern Shan States in Myanmar. It is a demersal fish which occurs in still and slow running waters as well as in a shallow lake, with dense submerged and floating vegetation.
Yunnanilus cruciatus is a species of stone loach endemic to Vietnam. This species grows to a length of 3.4 centimetres (1.3 in) SL. It is sometimes placed in the putative monotypic genus Micronemacheilus but this genus is currently preoccupied by Micronemacheilus zispi, although this species is regarded by some authorities as a junior synonym of Traccatichthys taeniatus. Y. cruciatus occurs in the relatively still and shallow stretches of rivers where there is dense aquatic vegetation and the substrate is muddy and sandy. The species seems to be quite commonly found in the aquarium trade.

Yunnanilus parvus is a species of ray-finned fish, a stone loach, in the genus Yunnanilus. The type locality of this species is given as Nan Tong, in Kaihuan County, Yunnan, China. However, when research was carried out to find these locations it was not possible to find the precise location of either place. It was described as being found in a cave outlet and feeding on detritus.
Yunnanilus tigerivinus is a species of stone loach which is endemic to China. Its type locality is an opening of an underground channel in a suburb of Kunming in Yunnan. Some authorities consider Y. tigerivinus to be a junior synonym of Yunnanilus pleurotaenia .
