Samuel Abraham Peyavali "Peya" Mushelenga (born September 01,1975 in Oshigambo,Ovamboland) is a Namibian politician and poet. He is broadly educated,holding twelve academic qualifications from six different universities.
A member of SWAPO,Mushelenga has been a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since 2005. He has served cabinet in several ministerial roles and is the current [update] Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since 9 February 2024.
Peya Mushelenga was born at Oshigambo in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia. He attended Oluno Senior Secondary School until 1992 and then entered the University of Namibia (UNAM).
Mushelenga has accumulated fourteen university degrees in his career;the New Era daily called him "Namibia's most avid scholar". [1] He graduated with: [2]
Mushelenga is an admitted legal practitioner (attorney) of the High Court of Namibia. [2]
After his first degree at UNAM Mushelenga worked as teacher at Nehale Senior Secondary School in 1996. He then worked for Government until 1998,and thereafter joined NamPower. [2]
He became active in the Namibia National Students Organisation in the 1980s and eventually became a high-level organizer for the SWAPO Party Youth League,being elected to the Central Committee and National Executive of the SPYL in 1997 and 2002. He had recently led the big delegation of 250 SWAPO Party Youth League leaders to Sochi Russia,to attend the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students,the event organized by World Federation of Democratic Youth WFDY and the Russian government. Also in 2002,he was elected to the SWAPO Central Committee as its youngest member (re-elected in 2007 and 2012).
Mushelenga became a member of Parliament of Namibia in 2005. In 2010,he was appointed deputy minister of Foreign Affairs. [3] In a major cabinet reshuffle he was promoted to minister of Urban and Rural Development on 8 February 2018. [4] [5] On 21 March 2020,Mushelenga was appointed minister of Information and Communication Technology. [6]
In 1980,South African security forces killed Mushelenga's sister and injured other relatives during a raid on their family home in the former bantustan of Ovamboland.
A book of poetry entitled Nando Na Li Toke,written in the Ovambo dialect of Ndonga,was published by Gamsberg MacMillan in 1996. [7]
The South West Africa People's Organisation,officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia,is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960,it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group.
Hage Gottfried Geingob was a Namibian politician who served as the third president of Namibia from 2015 until his death in February 2024. Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002,and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. He also served as president of the ruling SWAPO Party from 2017 until his death.
Jerry Lukiiko Ekandjo is a Namibian politician,former anti-apartheid activist and political prisoner. He is one of the founding members of the SWAPO Youth League and has been one of the most active internal leading members of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) during the liberation struggle. He spent eight years in prison on Robben Island after being charged for inciting violence in 1973.
Utoni Daniel Nujoma is a Namibian politician who serves as Minister of Labour,Industrial Relations and Employment Creation since March 2020. He has served in various government ministerial positions in the government since 2010.
Pendukeni "Penny" Iivula-Ithana is a Namibian politician who served as the secretary general of SWAPO,Namibia's ruling party,from 2007 to 2012. She was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia in 1989 and has been a member of Parliament and member of cabinet since independence in 1990.

Jesaya Nyamu is a Namibian politician. A member of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP),he was a high level member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) from 1964,when he fled into exile,until 2002,when he was expelled from the party for "disobedience". He was a member of SWAPO's central committee from 1975 until his expulsion from the party in 2002. In 2007,he registered a new political party,the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and was unanimously selected as the party's secretary general in 2008. He was elected to the National Assembly of Namibia with RDP in the 2009 general election.
Nickey Iyambo was a Namibian politician and physician who served as the first Vice President of Namibia.
Pohamba Penomwenyo Shifeta is a Namibian politician. He is Namibia's Minister of Environment and Tourism since his appointment by president Hage Geingob in March 2015.
Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is a Namibian politician who is the third and current vice president of Namibia since February 2024. She previously served as the deputy-prime minister of Namibia from 2015 to 2024. The current SWAPO vice president,she has retained her position,and is set to become the party's first female presidential candidate in November 2024. She has also been serving as Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since December 2012. From March 2010 to December 2012,she was Minister of Environment and Tourism. Nandi-Ndaitwah is a member of SWAPO,Namibia's ruling party,and a long-time member of the National Assembly. In 2017,Nandi-Ndaitwah was elected vice-president of the Swapo Party at the party's 6th Congress. She is the first woman to serve in that position.

Teopolina Mushelenga is a Namibian politician. A member of SWAPO,she was first elected to the National Assembly of Namibia in the 1999 elections,and was subsequently reelected in 2004. After the election of Hifikepunye Pohamba that year,she was appointed deputy minister for home affairs and immigration. Prior to the 2009 general election,Mushelenga was placed 59th on SWAPO's electoral list of 72 candidates for the National Assembly. The top 54 SWAPO candidates on the list were elected,leaving her out of the National Assembly.

Royal Johan Kxao ǀUiǀoǀoo is a Namibian politician who is serving in the cabinet of Namibia as deputy Minister of Marginalised People since March 2015.
