Integrated Taxonomic Information System Authoritative taxonomic information on plants, animals, fungi, and microbes

The Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) is an American partnership of federal agencies designed to provide consistent and reliable information on the taxonomy of biological species. ITIS was originally formed in 1996 as an interagency group within the US federal government, involving several US federal agencies, and has now become an international body, with Canadian and Mexican government agencies participating. The database draws from a large community of taxonomic experts. Primary content staff are housed at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and IT services are provided by a US Geological Survey facility in Denver. The primary focus of ITIS is North American species, but many biological groups exist worldwide and ITIS collaborates with other agencies to increase its global coverage.

Succinea putris

Succinea putris is a species of small air-breathing land snail in the family Succineidae, the amber snails.

Lachesillidae

Lachesillidae is a family of Psocoptera, or fateful barklice, belonging to the suborder Psocomorpha. Members of the family are characterised by a rounded, free areola postica in their wings. Males have diverse sclerotized genitalic structures. The family includes more than 400 species, most of them in the genus Lachesilla.

Salpingidae

Salpingidae or narrow-waisted bark beetles is a family of beetles, in the large suborder Polyphaga. The species are small, about 1.5 – 7 mm in length. This family is worldwide distributed and consists of about 45 genera and 300 species.

Pherbellia Genus of flies

Pherbellia is a genus of flies in the family Sciomyzidae, the marsh flies or snail-killing flies. They occur throughout the world, except for the Subantarctic region.

Pherbellia cinerella Species of fly

Pherbellia cinerella is a species of fly in the family Sciomyzidae. It is found in the Palearctic. P. cinerella is a dark and very characteristic Pherbellia and easy to recognise in the field by its long mid-frontal stripe and darkened anterior wing margin. The larva is predatory on a variety of terrestrial and aquatic snails including Helicidae, Galba truncatula, Helix, Helicella, Succinea and Lymnaea. There is little or no host preference. It is found in a wide range of habitats but it is most often found in warm and dry habitats such as coastal dunes and calcareous grassland where it can reach high numbers. It is also encountered in moist vegetation though in lesser numbers. It is a potential biological control agent.

Pherbellia schoenherri Species of fly

Pherbellia schoenherri is a species of fly in the family Sciomyzidae. It is found in the Palearctic. The females lay eggs on the shells of Succineidae including Succinea putris. The resultant larvae consume the animal and pupate within the shell. P. schoenherri is a very common and widespread species with a very long flight period. It flies mainly from April to October, but in most European countries, it occurs all year round and in a very wide variety of both dry and moist habitats.

Pherbellia ventralis is a species of fly in the family Sciomyzidae. It is found in the Palearctic. The larvae feed on aquatic snails including Stagnicola palustris.

Animal Ethics is a nonprofit organization formed to promote discussion and debate around issues in animal ethics and to provide information and resources for animal advocates. They also do outreach work in several countries on the issue of speciesism. Their aim is to create a world where moral consideration is extended to all sentient beings. The organization's website covers topics such as speciesism, sentience, veganism and wild animal suffering and has content translated into several languages.
