The Philippines participated at the 14th Southeast Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Out of 376 Gold medals at stake, the Philippine contingent won 59 or 15.69%. The medal tallies indicate a continuing decline in the performance of Filipino athletes in the Southeast Asian Games, the same trend is noted in the Silver and Bronze medal categories. Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Jose Sering was so far happy that the athletes did better and Gintong Alay Director Jose Romasanta said it was good enough. [1]

The 2005 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 23rd Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Manila, Philippines.
The Philippines participated in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games at which they were hosting the biennial meet for the third time. Athletes from the country earned 113 gold medals which placed the Philippines in the medal tally as the overall champions, 26 gold medals ahead of Thailand. The tally dropped to 112 a few months later when a gold medalist from Taekwondo was disqualified and stripped of her prize.

Elma is one of the foremost track and field athletes produced by the Philippines under the Marcos regime's National Sports Program, Gintong Alay, that was launched in 1979, but was eventually disbanded in 1986 after the ousting of Ferdinand Marcos and replaced by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in 1990.

Ramón Solis is a Filipino weightlifter. He has represented the Philippines internationally from 1975 to 1998. He won several medals in the Southeast Asian Games from 1977 to 1997. He won gold medals in 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989 and 1991 in the Southeast Asian Games. He competed in the men's middle heavyweight event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. He has also competed at the 1998 Asian Games in the men's 105 kg event.
Willy Reyes Wang is a former wushu taolu athlete from the Philippines. He is one of the most decorated Filipino wushu athletes of all time in international competition and became especially renowned after his gold medal victory at the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament.
