Pieter Mey (born 17 December 1948) is a South African politician and former police lieutenant who was elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in the 2024 general election. A member of the Freedom Front Plus,he serves as the party's leader in the Eastern Cape. Mey had previously served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 until 2024.
Mey was born in 1948 in the town of Willowmore in the Union of South Africa. He matriculated from Willowmore High School in 1966. [1] He obtained a B.Iuris degree in law from the University of Port Elizabeth. [1]
Mey joined the South African Police in 1966. [1] He served in Pretoria,Johannesburg,Lusikisiki,Port Elizabeth and Western Area. [1] He resigned from the police force in 1980 with the rank of lieutenant and started working in the real estate industry. [1]
Mey was later appointed leader of the Freedom Front Plus in the Eastern Cape. [2] In 2014 he stood for election to the South African National Assembly. [1] He was not elected.
In 2019 Mey stood for the National Assembly again. This time he was successful in his bid. [3] He served on the Portfolio Committee on Transport and the Portfolio Committee on Environment,Forestry and Fisheries. [4]
Mey was elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in the 2024 provincial election. [5]
Mey is married to Elizabeth Anne,and has three children. [2]
The Freedom Front Plus is a right-wing political party in South Africa that was formed in 1994. It is led by Pieter Groenewald. Since 2024,it is a part of the current South African government of national unity together with the African National Congress (ANC),the Democratic Alliance and other parties.

Petrus Johannes "Pieter" Groenewald is a South African politician who is currently serving as Minister of Correctional Services since July 2024. He has served as the Leader of the Freedom Front Plus since his election in November 2016. He started his political career by being elected Mayor of Stilfontein in 1988. He relinquished the position in 1989 due to his election to the House of Assembly. Groenewald co-founded the Freedom Front in 1994,and served as a Member of the National Assembly until his election to the North West Provincial Legislature in 1999. He returned to the National Assembly in 2001.

Boshoff is the grandson of the assassinated apartheid-era Prime Minister of South Africa,Hendrik Verwoerd,who served from 1958 until 1966,and the son of Afrikaner enclave Orania founder,Carel Boshoff.
Tamarin "Tammy" Breedt is a South African politician who is the national youth leader of the Freedom Front Plus as well as a member of the National Council of Provinces. She was a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature from December 2017 until May 2019 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from May 2019 until May 2024. Breedt was married to fellow FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels.

He is also the chairperson of Parliament's Standing Committee on the Auditor General. He took office as an MP on 1 December 2017 and succeeded the former party leader Pieter Mulder,who resigned from Parliament a day earlier.
Ignatius Michael "Michal" Groenewald is a South African politician who was elected to the North West Provincial Legislature in the 2024 provincial election. A member of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+),he is the party's provincial leader in the North West. Groenewald's father Pieter is the national leader of the Freedom Front Plus. He was previously a municipal councillor in the Matlosana Local Municipality and a member of parliament.
Philippus Adriaan van Staden,known as Philip van Staden,is a South African politician from Gauteng. He has been serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) since 2019. He previously represented the FF+ in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. Van Staden was a municipal councillor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2011 to 2014.

De Wet Nel is a South African politician who has served as a Member of North West Provincial Legislature for the Freedom Front Plus since May 2019. In June 2019,he was appointed chairperson of the Standing Committee on Oversight of the North West Provincial Legislature. Nel was previously a councillor of the Rustenburg Local Municipality.

Chantel King is a South African politician and educator. A member of the Democratic Alliance,she was sworn in as a Buffalo City councillor in July 2015. King became a Member of Parliament in November 2016. She then became Shadow Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in January 2017. In December 2020 King was appointed as Shadow Minister of Higher Education,Science and Technology. King became a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2024.
Nonkqubela Ntomboxolo Pieters is a South African politician and educator who has been the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environmental Affairs and Tourism since 2024 and a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2019,representing the African National Congress (ANC). She previously served as the MEC for Human Settlements from 2019 to 2021 and then as the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from 2021 until 2024. Pieters served as the speaker of the Cacadu District Municipality from 2006 to 2018.

He was then appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for the Finance,Economic Development,Environment and Tourism portfolio. In 2018,he was fired as an MEC. Somyo was elected to Parliament in 2019. Soon after,he was elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Auditor General.

He served as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Democratic Alliance from 2009 until his defection to the Freedom Front Plus ahead of the 2014 general election. From 2019 Coetzee was the sole representative of the Freedom Front Plus in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature.
Theodorus Ernst Joubert is a South African politician who has been a member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since June 2024,representing the Freedom Front Plus.
