The Pitchfork Music Festival 2006 was held over two days on July 29 to 30, 2006 at the Union Park, Chicago, United States. [1] The edition marks the first edition under the current name, after the publication curated the lineup for Intonation Music Festival the previous year. [2]

Starting in 2011, the festival announced a branch staged in Paris at Grande halle de la Villette. The festival, which is normally held over three days in July, focuses primarily on artists and bands from the alternative rock, hip hop, electronic and dance music genres, although it has also ranged into hardcore punk, experimental rock and jazz in its lineups. While it started as a showcase for just the "cutting edge", it later took on a broader depth and vision, keeping the cutting-edge focus but also including important artists and acts that have influenced newer performers and artists. A branch planned for Berlin at Tempodrom in 2020 was cancelled.

The festival marked A Tribe Called Quest's first full live concert since the death of founding member Phife Dawg.

The Pitchfork Music Festival 2014 was held on July 18 to 19, 2014 at the Union Park, Chicago, United States. The festival was headlined by Beck, Kendrick Lamar and Neutral Milk Hotel. English rock band Slowdive made their first concert in North America in over twenty years. American band The Julie Ruin cancelled their appearance after frontwoman Kathleen Hanna suffered from Lyme disease.
