Placer County is divided into three sections, High Country, Gold Country and the Valley. Valley is considered to be the western slope of the county reaching from Roseville to Loomis and is referred to as Placer Valley.
East of Placer Valley is Gold County which leads to the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
Placer Valley is northeast of Sacramento County. Interstate 80 and Highway 65 are the major highways that pass though Placer Valley.

Placer Tourism, Inc., doing business as Placer Valley Tourism (PVT), is a Business Improvement District (BID), formed in 2004 by the City of Roseville under provisions in the California Streets and Highways Code Section 36500-36504, which is known as the "Property and Business Improvement District Law of 1994". The organization is classified for tax purposes as a 501(c)6.
The geographic footprint of PVT consists of the three cities of Roseville, Rocklin, and Lincoln, California. PVT exists to market the three-city region as a tourism destination in order to generate incremental room nights in hotels in the cities. Granite Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in Placer County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Granite Bay is a primarily residential suburb of Sacramento and is located just east of Roseville and west of Folsom Lake.

Auburn Boulevard is a major thoroughfare in Sacramento County, California, United States, and a tiny portion in Placer County, California carrying surface street traffic through the cities and communities of Sacramento, Arden-Arcade, Foothill Farms, Citrus Heights, and Roseville. It was formerly part of U.S. Route 40, a former cross-country highway connecting downtown Sacramento to Roseville and points beyond. To a lesser extent, most of Auburn Boulevard was also part of U.S. Route 99E, an eastern branch of the former U.S. Route 99, now succeeded by State Route 99.
Secret Ravine is a perennial tributary of Miners Ravine which shortly thereafter runs into Dry Creek in Placer County, California. Its course lies within the cities of Rocklin, Loomis, and Roseville, as well as unincorporated parts of Placer County. It passes through the campus of Sierra College. Over its entire length the creek runs near the Interstate 80 freeway. It is an area becoming increasingly suburbanized. It was the site of placer mining operations during the California Gold Rush, and areas of tailings remain to this day. Later the drainage was a locale for granite quarrying.

Thunder Valley Casino Resort is a hotel and casino located in unincorporated Placer County in Whitney, California near the city of Lincoln, California, 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Sacramento. It is owned and operated by the United Auburn Indian Community and designed by architect Edward Vance of JMA Architecture Studios, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The resort opened on June 9, 2003. It was operated by Station Casinos from 2003 to 2010.
The Roseville Diamonds were a short lived minor league baseball team based in Roseville, California, For a portion of the 1948 season, the Diamonds played the ending portion of the season as members of the Class D level Far West League, after the Pittsburg Diamonds relocated to Roseville on July 30, 1948. Roseville hosted home minor league games at Maidu Park. The Diamonds were a minor league affiliate of the New York Giants and the team finished in last place during its only season of play. Roseville hosted home minor league games at Maidu Park.
The Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) is the governing body of public and private high school athletics in parts of the Northern San Joaquin Valley, California. Its geographic area also covers the California portion of the Lake Tahoe region; however, three schools in that area—North Tahoe, Truckee, and South Tahoe High Schools—are instead members of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association due to their relative isolation from other California schools and their proximity to more populated areas in Nevada, especially in the Reno area.
