Pleasant Grove is a rural farming unincorporated community in Houston County, Texas, United States. It is located six miles from Lovelady off State Highway 19. It was established after the Civil War. A school was built in 1857. By the 1990s, the town was dispersed, although the church with several members still remains. [1]

It was one of the first communities to be built as a master-planned, automobile centered community and the first in Houston. The 1972 Texas gubernatorial election was held on November 7, 1972, to elect the governor of Texas. Incumbent Democratic Governor Preston Smith ran for reelection, but lost renomination to businessman Dolph Briscoe. Smith was overwhelmingly rejected in the Democratic primary, taking fourth place with only 8% of the vote amid the fallout from the Sharpstown scandal. Briscoe went on to win the general election by a relatively small margin, winning 48% of the vote to Republican Henry Grover's 45%. Raza Unida candidate Ramsey Muniz won 6%.

Steamboat House is located at Sam Houston State University, in the city of Huntsville, county of Walker, in the U.S. state of Texas. Dr. Rufus W. Bailey built the house in 1858 as a wedding gift for his son, but the couple refused to live in it because of its unusual architecture, which caused the locals to give it the nickname "steamboat".
