Poovarany is a village in Meenachil Pachayath, Palai, Kottayam district, Kerala, India.The name poovarany means jungle of flowers. The Sacred Heart Church and Sree Mahadeva temple are the main religious centers. Two small rivers, the Cheruthode and Valiyathodu, flow through the area. Most of the people belong to Syrian Malabar Nasrani and Hindu communities.

The land around Poovarany is well-suited for cultivation. Rubber, pepper, coconut, paddy, ginger, and turmeric are common items produced here.

Ponkunnam and Palai are the nearest towns. It's very near to the pilgrimage center Bharananganam. Major centers are Kumbani, Ambalam, Moolethundi, Charala, Vilakummaruth, Palli, Thazhaveli, Kochukottaram and Pachathode.[ clarification needed ]

Edamattom is a small village on the bank of Meenachil River located in Poovarany Village in the Kottayam district, state of Kerala, India. The town lies 6.5 km South-East of Pala. Nearby towns and village include Amparanirappel, Bharananganam, Kizhaparayar, Poovarani and Vilakkumadom. Though it is a very small village, Edamattom is the home to the headquarters of Meenachil Panchayat, as well as accompanying services, including the Krishi Bhavan, the Political Associate Office of the Village (Poovarany) and the Meenachil Service Co-operative Bank. The village also contains an Ayurvedic hospital. The most prominent church in Edamattom is the St. Michael's Church. The primary focus of agriculture in the village is rubber and as such the village contains a rich vegetation of rubber trees.

The Marthoma Nazrani Eparchy of Palai is a Syro-Malabar Catholic eparchy with an area of 1166 km2 comprising the Meenachil taluk and a few villages of the neighbouring taluks in Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts of central Kerala in South India. The faithful of this eparchy, numbering 326,742, belong to the ancient St. Thomas Christian community. The seat of the bishop is the St. Thomas Cathedral based in the town of Palai. The current bishop is Joseph Kallarangatt, serving since March 2004. Jacob Muricken has been auxiliary bishop since 2012.

Neeloor is an agriculture-oriented rural village in the Taluk of Meenachil, Kottayam district, Kerala.
