The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs is a portfolio committee of the National Assembly in the Parliament of South Africa. The remit of the committee includes oversight of the Department of Home Affairs, the Government Printing Works, and the Electoral Commission of South Africa. [1]

Membership

Members elected in the general election that was held on 8 May 2019, were appointed on 27 June. [2] Advocate Bongani Bongo of the African National Congress was elected chair of the committee on 2 July. [3] The committee's members are as follows: [4]

In 2021 Bongo was removed as chairperson and replaced with Steve Chabane. [5]

Bongani Thomas Bongo is a South African politician, whose ANC membership is currently suspended along with the party's secretary-general Ace Magashule. Bongo is the former Minister of State Security, a position to which he was appointed on 17 October 2017 by President Jacob Zuma until he was relieved from the post on 28 February 2018. Nompendulo Thobile Mkhatshwa is a South African politician, former student leader and former #FeesMustFall activist currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the African National Congress (ANC).

Vusumuzi Cyril Xaba is a South African politician and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. He is currently serving as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans. A member of the African National Congress, he previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1994 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2019. Mahambehlala was Deputy Minister of Communications between 2017 and 2018. She has been a Member of Parliament since 2014.

Mfana Robert Mashego is a South African politician who has been the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation in the National Assembly since 2021. A member of the African National Congress, he has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. Mashego is also a member of the South African Communist Party.

Machwene Rosina Semenya is a South African politician who has been the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements since 2021. A member of the African National Congress, she had previously served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from 2014 to 2019 and as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation from 2019 to 2021. Semenya has been a Member of Parliament since 2014.

Fikile Devilliers Xasa is a South African politician currently serving as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs since 2021. He has been a Member of the National Assembly for the African National Congress since 2019.
