Prateeksha Kashi is an Indian Kuchipudi dancer, a classical dance form from the village of Kuchipudi in Andhra Pradesh, India. Belonging to the family of Dr. Gubbi Veeranna [1] she commenced her dance training at the age of five under the guidance of her mother and Guru Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi, [2] [3] Kuchipudi dancer, performer, and choreographer, artistic director of the Shambhavi School of Dance [4] and present chairperson of Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy. [5] [6]
Prateeksha Kashi earned a Computer Science Engineer degree from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. [7] Her interest in spreading Kuchipudi and inspiring youth towards it, led her to teach aspiring dancers in Bangalore.
In an interview for KnowYourStar, [8] Prateeksha Kashi expressed how technology has benefited the art form:
"In a way the tech side of me is still very relevant and comes a long way in my career as a dancer. I feel it is very important to be tech savvy and leverage the potential that technology offers; may it be to reach out wider, learn, or even implement ideas to enhance the quality of performance in terms of music, lighting, media and more. Tech revolution in India has always favoured art!".
Prateeksha Kashi, was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India to an artistic family. She is the daughter of the Kuchipudi dancer, Vyjayanthi Kashi. [9] [10] and Vijaya Kashi, a television and theatre artist.
As a child, it is said that Kashi sang and danced the whole of the dance drama AMBE from the Mahabharata when she was just three years old. Her stage debut at the age of five occurred when she ran onto the stage when her mother was performing at the Ramana Maharshi's Institute and started dancing in synchrony with the senior dancers of Shambhavi School of Dance next to whom she was only knee high. [11] Since then, she has been trained in Kuchipudi under the guidance of her mother and Guru Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi. At the age of thirteen, Prateeksha completed the Kuchipudi dance exams with distinction. [12] She was also awarded a gold medal for securing top rank in computer science in her Engineering College. Prateeksha Kashi did her Rangapooja on 20 February 2009, and since then she has been recognized as the "Rising Star". [15]

Prateeksha Kashi was recently selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar award by Central Sangeeth Natak Akademi, New Delhi. In 2014 she was honored with Aditya Vikram Birla Kalakiran Puraskar in the field of dance by the Government of Maharashtra. [59] [60] [61] In 2011 she received the 37th annual Aryabhata International Award for excellence in Kuchipudi. [62] She holds the titles of Nalanda Nritya Nipuna, instituted by the Nalanda Dance Research Centre [63] and Nritya Jyoti, awarded at the Naveen Kalakar. [64]
Prateeksha was the Winner of the Dance competition conducted by Pandit Jasraj's Foundation in New York. [65] She is a recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India [66] and received the"Young Dancer" award from Sanjali School of Odissi as a part of PRAVAHA 2013. [67] [68] In 2014, Prateeksha received the Kalabharathi National Young Talent Award/Kalabharathi Yuva Nrutha Pratibha Award, Naatyavedha Award as a part of "Jathis Music and Dance Festival".
Prateeksha Kashi is set to play the female lead role in Priyamanasam , a Sanskrit film based on Malayalam Poet Unnayi Variyar. According the news, this film will be the third Sanskrit movie produced in India after 22 years. Prateeksha has featured in many dance productions for television and is a graded artist of the Doordarshan Kendra. Currently, she appears in prominent roles alongside senior dancers in several dance dramas for national dance festivals. [74] [75] Prateeksha is an empanelled artist of ICCR, Govt. of India. She acted in a Kannada film Prakruthi which won the National Award for Adaptive Screenplay 2013 and the special jury award in the Bangalore International Film Festival-2014. [76]
Hailing from a family immersed in the arts Prateeksha Kashi has also delved in acting. She played the lead role "Mohini" in a Kannada serial named Kaadambari Kanaja telecasted in Udaya TV(Kannada). [77] [78] [79]
She has acted in telefilms including Hejjegurthugalu, which features her in the lead role Akkamahadevi. [80] Along with her Mother Vyjayanthi Kashi, she acted in Mathana - a confluence of Drama and Dance, for which she received positive reviews on her acting. Kashi also appeared in a short film series on social awareness named "Dwar"- Door For Transformation produced by KnowYourStar & Ravin Productions. [81]
Shambhavi Dance Theatre produced a dance DVD "The Magic of Kuchipudi" featuring Prateeksha Kashi. The DVD was released by Padmabhushan Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy as a part of "Nayika-Excellence Personified" which is organised on the occasion of Woman's Day on 8 March 2014 in Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan, Bangalore. [82] The Main Motto of producing this dance DVD is spreading of dance form kuchipudi as a Parampara to the younger generation, says Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi, who is the artistic director of Shambhavi.
Prateeksha Kashi played the role of Madhavi, a courtesan, in the dance production "Cilapathikaram", a performance that received critical acclaim. [83]
"Essence of Life" a multimedia production, is the brain child of Dega Deva Kumar Reddy, producer of South Indian films and a follower of spiritual teacher Jiddu Krishnamurti Garu. In this production they aim to spread the teachings of JK through the five different traditional art forms, including Kuchipudi. Prateeksha Kashi was chosen to choreograph and present the teachings of JK in this production. She contributed in this creative work by choreographing and performing on a concept "Can We Live Without Problems". [84] She performed recently in the Music Academy, Chennai [85] [86] and also in Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore. Mungara Yamini Krishnamurthy was an Indian classical dancer recognized for her contributions to Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She was a recipient of the Padma Shri (1968), Padma Bhushan (2001), Padma Vibhushan (2016) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1977).
Sangita Kalanidhi Aruna Sairam is an Indian classical vocalist and carnatic music singer. Raja and Radha Reddy are an Indian Kuchipudi dancing couple, gurus and choreographers. They are renowned as exponents of the South Indian dance form of Kuchipudi. They founded and run the Natya Tarangini Institute of Kuchipudi Dance in New Delhi. The duo are credited with having given Kuchipudi a new dimension without compromising on its traditional virtues. For their services to the field of arts, the Government of India has conferred on them the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards.
Vyjayanthi Kashi is an Indian classical dancer, a kuchipudi exponent. She is from the family of Dr Gubbi Veeranna who was an Indian theatre director, one of the pioneers and most prolific contributors to Kannada theatre. Vyjayanthi Kashi is a reputed kuchipudi dancer,a celebrated performer and choreographer and artistic director of a dance school Shambhavi School of Dance where they teaches this traditional dance form kuchipudi. She was also the chairperson of Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy.

She was a recipient of the Padma Shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Kalidas Samman for Classical Dance. She was born in 1925 in Bombay, and lived in Mumbai and Bangalore. She hailed from Mangalore. She died on 28 December 2007 at her home at Malleswaram, Bangalore.
