President's Management Advisory Board

The President's Management Advisory Board is or was a council of 17 corporate executives from leading American companies. Its purpose was to provide the administration of the executive branch advice and recommendations on effective strategies for the implementation of the best business practices on matters related to federal government's management and operations, with focus on productivity, the implementation of innovative methods, customer service, and technology.^[1] The board will be chaired by former Sirius/XM Satellite Radio Director Jeffrey Zients as part of the General Services Administration of the Executive Office.^[2] On March 10, 2011, board appointees were announced, including Greg Brown, president and chief executive officer of Motorola Solutions, Inc.; Sam Gilliland, Chairman and CEO of Sabre Holdings; Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET Networks; Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO of Adobe Systems, Inc.; and Tim Solso, Chairman and CEO of Cummins, Inc.^[3]

The board was formed by Executive Order 13538 by President Barack Obama in 2010 and intended to complement the President's Management Council, the interagency management and reform group also of the Executive branch created by the Clinton Administration in 1993.^[4] The board grew out of a January 2010 White House gathering that included the founders of Craigslist, Facebook, Adobe Systems, Microsoft, J Crew, Rosetta Stone, and Yelp! who were invited by Obama to share their tips on making the government more customer-friendly.^[5]^[6] The Board may have been abolished during 2017, and some functions were apparently moved to the Trump administration's new Office of American Innovation.^[7]

The President’s Management Council is an executive branch reform group in the United States. Although established by the Administration of President Bill Clinton in 1993, the concept for this council, and its purpose, has existed in various forms since the Reagan administration. The group is made up of high-ranking administrative officials and tasked with improving management within the Executive Office, resolving specific interagency management issues and produce mechanisms for the efficient exchange of information throughout the executive branch. Members to the council include the Chief Operating Officers from all federal executive departments, the Deputy Director for Management of the Office of Management and Budget, Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Administrator of General Services Administration, the Chief Operating Officers of three other Executive branch agencies designated by the Chairperson, Secretary of the Cabinet, as well as officials of the Executive departments and agencies as designated by the President.

Senior Advisor to the President is a title used by high-ranking political advisors to the president of the United States. White House senior advisors are senior members of the White House Office. The title has been formally used since 1993.

The Presidential Innovation Fellows program is a competitive fellowship program that pairs top innovators from the private sector, non-profits, and academia with top innovators in government to collaborate on solutions that aim to deliver significant results in months, not years. It was established in 2012 and has operated continuously since then. The program focuses on generating measurable results, using innovation techniques from private industry such as Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Agile Development. Cristin Ann Dorgelo is the senior advisor for management at the White House Office of Management and Budget. Dorgelo is the president emeritus of the Association of Science and Technology Centers, where she previously served as president and CEO. Dorgelo served as the chief of staff at the Office of Science and Technology Policy during the Barack Obama White House.
