The Priory of Our Lady of Good Counsel is a former priory on Franklynn Road (the B2272) in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England. Built in 1886, to a design by Edward Goldie, it is now Grade II listed. [1] [2]
The priory was built for a community of nuns from Bruges. It was Haywards Heath's first Roman Catholic church. A separate church (St Paul's) was established nearby in 1930. The nuns moved to Sayers Common in 1978, and the building was converted into a restaurant, offices and conference facilities. [3]
In August 2007, the priory was visited for an episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares , fronted by chef Gordon Ramsay, which aired in November 2007. The building was occupied at the time by The Priory Grill, a 100-seat restaurant owned by Scott Aitchison. [4] [5] Aitchison, a former IT consultant, bought the building earlier in 2007 for £300,000 and started to lose around £5,000 a week. The restaurant closed in 2008, and later became a tapas restaurant.[ citation needed ] The building is now divided up into 43 flats. [6] [7]
