Priya Davdra (born 12 April 1987) is a British actress, known for playing Iqra Ahmed on the BBC soap opera EastEnders from 2019 to 2022, the first Muslim lesbian character to appear on the show. Following her exit from EastEnders, she has starred in the ITVX horror comedy series Count Abdulla .

Early life

Davdra was born on 12 April 1987 in London, England. Davdra is British of Indian Gujarati descent and Hindu heritage. [1] After leaving school, Davdra initially pursued a career in banking, a job she stayed in until the age of 30. [1] From 2016 to 2017, she attended the International School of Screen Acting. [2]

Career

While at drama school, Davdra made her professional acting career in the feature film Naan Yaar as lead role Shivani in 2016. [3] Then in 2017, she appeared in a short film titled The Chapati Flower [4] and an internet advertisement for Think. [3] After making guest appearances in various projects, Davdra was cast as a series regular in the BBC soap opera EastEnders in December 2018. [5] She made her first appearance as Iqra Ahmed on 19 February 2019. [6] [7] Davdra's character was involved in a coming out storyline where she became the first Muslim lesbian to appear on EastEnders. Doctors is a British medical soap opera, first broadcast on BBC One on 26 March 2000. Filmed in Birmingham and set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both an NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as the lives of their families and friends. Initially, only 41 episodes of the programme were ordered, but due to the positive reception, the BBC ordered it as a continuing soap opera. Bobby Beale (<i>EastEnders</i>) Fictional character from EastEnders

Bobby Beale is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, who made his first appearance in episode 2557, originally broadcast on 24 July 2003. The character was originally played by Kevin Curran as an infant. Prior to his introduction, Bobby's paternity is at the centre of a storyline and is resolved when Ian Beale is revealed as Bobby's father. His mother, Laura Beale, is killed off in 2004 and Bobby's stepmother, Jane Beale, later adopts Bobby. Curran was replaced by Alex Francis in 2007. Following Jane's departure, Bobby finds a mother figure in Mandy Salter and is upset when she leaves.

Masood Ahmed is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Nitin Ganatra. The character made his first appearance in episode 3452, first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2007. Masood was introduced as part of the Masood family, a Pakistani-Muslim family gradually introduced across 2007 as part of plans to "diversify" the serial. This marked Ganatra's first role in soap opera and he was "nervous but excited" about joining the serial. Neighbours: The Explosion is a storyline from the Australian television soap opera Neighbours, which began on 19 March 2013, when the marquee hosting Toadfish Rebecchi and Sonya Mitchell's wedding reception collapsed after a gas bottle exploded. The storyline also saw the deaths of two regular characters; Rhys Lawson and Priya Kapoor. "Neighbours: The Explosion" was broadcast as the highlight of the serial's 28th anniversary week and executive producer Richard Jasek stated that the wedding was a good opportunity to heighten the drama and have the event affect the whole community. The cast and crew played on Toadie's previous bad luck with weddings for the storyline and Moloney thought it would rival his 2003 wedding to Dee Bliss, which ended in her presumed death.

Smith auditioned for the role over Zoom due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on television and was cast as Dana, a love interest for established character Bobby Beale, making her first appearance on 1 April 2021. She was initially cast in a 6-month guest stint, but was promoted to a regular cast member and had her family introduced to the soap. She was overjoyed to have been cast due to having been a fan of the soap since her youth. Dana has been shown to be a bubbly, generous and likeable character. Arian Mirzaali, known professionally as Arian Nik, is an English actor and writer. He stars as the titular character of the ITVX horror sitcom Count Abdulla (2023).

Count Abdulla is a British horror comedy television series written by Kaamil Shah. It is about a British-Pakistani doctor who becomes a vampire. It premiered on ITVX on 15 June 2023 before airing on ITV2 on 21 January 2024.
