Politics of Ghana takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Ghana is both head of state and head of government,and of a two party system. The seat of government is at Golden Jubilee House. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and Parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana,founded by Jerry Rawlings,who was Head of State in Ghana from 1981 to 1993. He became the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC),which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981,there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992,in which Rawlings was elected president,and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001.
John Dramani Mahama is a Ghanaian politician who has been the 14th president of Ghana since 7 January 2025. He previously served as the 12th president from 2012 to 2017 and as the fifth vice president from 2009 to 2012. Mahama took office as president for the first time on 24 July 2012,following the death of his predecessor,John Atta Mills.
Kpando Municipal District is one of the eighteen districts in Volta Region,Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989 when it was known as Kpando District,until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 19 August 2004 to create South Dayi District;thus the remaining part has been retained as Kpando District. However on 28 June 2012,the southern part of the district was later split off to create North Dayi District on 28 June 2012;while the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Kpando Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Volta Region and has Kpando as its capital town.
Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a Ghanaian academic and politician who currently serves as the eighth vice president of Ghana under President John Mahama since 7 January 2025. She previously served as Minister for Education from February 2013 to January 2017 under President Mahama's first administration. She is a professor of literature,and served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana when she took over as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. She served as the Chancellor of the Women's University in Africa in Zimbabwe until her resignation in August 2024.
Akua Sena Dansua is an experienced Ghanaian media and communications consultant,politician and governance and leadership practitioner. She was the Member of Parliament for North Dayi in Ghana and former Ambassador to Germany.
Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong,is a Ghanaian female legal practitioner,a former Attorney General of Ghana and Minister for Justice. She was appointed by President Mahama in 2013. She is the second woman to hold this office in Ghana,the first being Betty Mould-Iddrisu. Her tenure as attorney general ended on 6 January 2017. She was appointed to the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 1 July 2018 for a three-year term. She is Honorary Council Member of the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA).
Dzifa Aku Attivor was a Ghanaian politician and businesswoman. She was Minister for Transport in Ghana until her resignation in December 2015 due to a controversial bus re-branding contract. She was appointed in February 2013 by President John Mahama after the Ghanaian general election in December 2012.

Ablah Dzifa Gomashie is a Ghanaian female veteran actress,producer,screen scriptwriter and a politician. She was the Deputy Minister of Tourism in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during their term in office between 2013 and 2017 when John Dramani Mahama was president. She is currently the parliamentary candidate of the NDC in the Ketu South Constituency and a queen-mother in the Aflao Traditional Area.
Said Sinare is a Ghanaian diplomat and politician,who is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is currently a National Vice Chairman of the party. He is a former member of parliament for Ayawaso Central Constituency. He is also a former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Sinare is an investigator and the founder of Zongo for NDC,a group to help advocate to Muslims and period within the Zongos in Ghana.
