Puerto Rico Highway 143 (PR-143) is a secondary highway that connects the town of Adjuntas to the town of Barranquitas.
Heading east from Adjuntas, PR-143 runs through the northern border of the municipality of Ponce, before reaching Orocovis and then Barranquitas.
The road is a major part of Puerto Rico's Panoramic Route, being the major middle component of such route. It crosses Toro Negro State Forest, and leads to such landmarks as Cerro de Punta and Lago El Guineo lake. [5] The Orocovis-Villalba lookout and Cerro Maravilla as well as a number of local restaurants can be found along the way.

Cerro Maravilla is Puerto Rico's fourth highest peak at 1,205 meters (3,953 ft). It is located on the northern edge Barrio Anón in Ponce, close to the border with the municipality Jayuya, and is part of the Cordillera Central. It is known as El Cerro de los Mártires and characterized as the most infamous peak in Puerto Rico, due to the 1978 Cerro Maravilla murders which took place here.
Orocovis is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the Central Mountain Range, north of Villalba and Coamo; south of Morovis and Corozal; southeast of Ciales; east of Jayuya; and west of Barranquitas. Orocovis is spread over 17 barrios and Orocovis Pueblo. It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Villalba, originally known as Villa Alba, is town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the central region, northeast of Juana Díaz; south of Orocovis; and west of Coamo. Villalba is spread over 6 barrios and Villalba Pueblo. It is part of the Ponce Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Cerro de Punta or just Cerro Punta is the highest peak in Puerto Rico, rising to 1,338 meters (4,390 ft) above sea level. The mountain is part of the Cordillera Central and is located in the municipality of Ponce.
Cordillera Central, is the main mountain range in Puerto Rico. The range crosses the island from west to east and divides it into its northern and southern coastal plains. The Cordillera Central runs eastward from the municipality of Maricao in the west to Aibonito in the central eastern region, and on to the Caribbean in the southeast through the Sierra de Cayey. The Central Mountain Range consists of the Cordillera Central proper and numerous subranges, foothills and ridges that extend throughout the island. Cerro de Punta is both the highest peak of the Cordillera Central and the highest point in Puerto Rico. The Sierra de Luquillo, where El Yunque is located, is sometimes included as a subrange or eastward extension of the Cordillera Central.
Puerto Rico Highway 10 (PR-10) is a major highway in Puerto Rico. The primary state road connects the city of Ponce in the south coast to Arecibo in the north; it is also the shortest route between the two cities.
Puerto Rico Highway 14 (PR-14) is a main highway connecting Ponce to Cayey, Puerto Rico. The road runs the same course as the historic Carretera Central. The Ponce-to-Coamo section of PR-14 was built under the direction of Spanish engineer Raimundo Camprubí Escudero.
Puerto Rico Highway 156 (PR-156) is a long east–west highway which connects Caguas to Orocovis, passing through Aguas Buenas, Comerío and Barranquitas. This route extends from its junction with PR-1 in downtown Caguas to PR-5155 in downtown Orocovis.
Puerto Rico Highway 123 (PR-123) is a secondary highway that connects the city Arecibo to the city of Ponce. It runs through the towns of Utuado and Adjuntas, before reaching Ponce. A parallel road is being built, PR-10, that is expected to take on most of the traffic currently using PR-123.
The Ruta Panorámica, officially the Ruta Panorámica Luis Muñoz Marín, is a 167-mile (269 km) network of some 40 secondary roads which traverse the island of Puerto Rico from west to east along its Cordillera Central. Most of the route consists of three roads, PR-105, PR-143, and PR-182. The route starts in Mayagüez and ends in Maunabo. The first major segment of the route runs from Mayagüez to Maricao as Route 105, then from Adjuntas to Aibonito as Route 143, and then follows Route 182 toward Maunabo.
Toro Negro State Forest is one of the 21 forests that make up the public forests system in Puerto Rico. It is also Puerto Rico's highest cloud forest. It is in the Cordillera Central region of the island and covers 8,204 cuerdas, of mountains. Toro Negro's mountains have heights reaching up to 4,400 feet (1,300 m) and include Cerro de Punta, Cerro Jayuya and Cerro Rosa, the three highest peaks in the island. Nested among these mountains is Lake Guineo, the island's highest lake. The forest has 18 kilometers (11 mi) of trails, an observation tower, two natural swimming pools (Spanish:"charcos"), camping and picnic areas, nine rivers, and numerous creeks and waterfalls. The forest spans areas within the municipalities of Ponce, Jayuya, Orocovis, Ciales, and Juana Díaz, and consists of seven non-contiguous tracts of land. The largest contiguous segment of the forest is located in the municipalities of Ponce and Jayuya. Some 40% of the area of Toro Negro State Forest is located in Ponce's Barrio Anón.
Anón is one of the 31 barrios in the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Along with Marueño, Coto Laurel, Guaraguao, Quebrada Limon, Real, and San Patricio, and the coastal barrios of Canas and Capitanejo, Anón is one of the municipality's nine bordering barrios. Anón borders the municipalities of Jayuya and Juana Diaz. The name of this barrio is of native Indian origin. It was founded in 1878. Barrio Anón is one of three Ponce barrios located on the Cordillera Central mountain range.
Puerto Rico Highway 503 (PR-503), also called Carretera Tibes, is a tertiary state road that connects Barrio Consejo, in the southwestern part of the municipality of Utuado, to Barrio Tercero in the city of Ponce, and ending at Museo de la Historia de Ponce, one block east of the center of the city at Plaza Las Delicias.
Puerto Rico Highway 525 (PR-525) is a rural road located entirely in the municipality of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. With a length of 5.8 kilometers (3.6 mi), it begins at its intersection with PR-135 in Guayo barrio and ends at its junction with PR-131 in Guilarte barrio.
Puerto Rico Highway 723 (PR-723) is a rural road that goes from the municipality of Aibonito to southern Barranquitas via northeastern Coamo, Puerto Rico. With a length of 9.6 kilometers (6.0 mi), it begins at its intersection with PR-14 on the Pasto–Asomante line, passing through Pulguillas barrio until its end at its junction with PR-143 on the Coamo–Barranquitas municipal line.
Puerto Rico Highway 155 (PR-155) is a rural road that goes from Coamo, Puerto Rico to Vega Baja through Orocovis and Morovis. It extends from PR-14 in downtown Coamo to PR-2 east of downtown Vega Baja.
Puerto Rico Highway 157 (PR-157) is a rural road that travels from Ciales, Puerto Rico to Orocovis. It begins at its intersection with PR-149 in Toro Negro and ends at its junction with PR-155 near downtown Orocovis.
Puerto Rico Highway 152 (PR-152) is a rural road that travels from Barranquitas to Naranjito in Puerto Rico. This road extends from PR-156 in downtown Barranquitas and ends at its junction with PR-5 and PR-164 near downtown Naranjito.
Puerto Rico Highway 567 (PR-567) is a north–south rural road located between the municipalities of Orocovis and Morovis, Puerto Rico. It extends from its junction with PR-157 on the Barros–Damián Arriba line in Orocovis, passing through Vaga, Pasto and San Lorenzo barrios until its end at its intersection with PR-145 and PR-6622 in the Torrecillas–Morovis Norte line in Morovis.
