The Kerala Legislative Assembly, popularly known as the Niyamasabha, is the State Assembly of Kerala, one of the 29 States in India. The Assembly is formed by 140 elected representatives and one nominated member from the Anglo-Indian community. Each elected member represents one of the 140 constituencies within the borders of Kerala and is referred to as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

Kollam is the capital of Kerala's cashew industry. Plains, mountains, lakes, lagoons and backwaters, forests, farmland and rivers make up the topography of the district. The area had trading relationships with Phoenicia and Ancient Rome.

As per the recent changes on assembly constituency delimitations, the Punalur assembly constituency consist of the municipality of Punalur and 7 neighbouring panchayaths including Anchal, Ariyankavu, Edamulakkal, Eroor, Karavaloor, Kulathupuzha and Thenmala in Punalur Taluk. [2] [3]

It's also the headquarters of Punalur Taluk and Punalur Revenue Division. It's situated in the eastern part of Kollam district of the southern Indian state of Kerala, on the banks of the Kallada River and foothills of the western ghats. It is about 45 kilometres (28 mi) north-east of Kollam and 75 kilometres (47 mi) north of Thiruvananthapuram.

P. K. Gurudasan is an Indian politician, trade unionist, and a member of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the Minister for Labour and Employment in the Government of Kerala headed by VS Achuthananthan between 2006 and 2011. He represents the Kollam Assembly constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He is also the State President of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and a member of Central Committee of CPI(M). Kollam–Sengottai branch line

The Kollam–Sengottai branch line is a railway line in South India which connects Kollam Junction in Kerala state and Sengottai in Tamil Nadu. The Quilon–Shencottah railway line was the first railway line in the erstwhile Travancore state and is more than a century old. The Kollam–Sengottai section is part of the Kollam–Chennai metre gauge rail route commissioned by the British in 1904. The line has been completely converted to broad gauge and is now fully operational from Kollam Junction to Shengottai.

M. Noushad Indian politician

M. Noushad is an Indian politician and member of the fourteenth Kerala Legislative Assembly representing Eravipuram constituency in Kollam district of Kerala. He started his political career through student movement, in 1985 he was elected as College union general secretary. In 1986 he was elected as Vice chairman of Kerala University union. He won with record margin from Manacuad ward in 1995 and became the vice president of Vadakkevila Panchayat in kollam. He belongs to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) and a member of the CPI(M) Kollam east area committee. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Kollam Municipal Corporation from July 2014 to October 2015. Representing an L.D.F. candidate from Eravipuram he contested in the Kerala Legislative Assembly Election in 2016 and defeated A. A. Aziz, the state secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party by a margin of 28,803 votes.
