Putri Tangguk is a character from Jambi folklore. [1] [2] According to the story, Putri Tangguk is a mother who has seven kids and lives with her husband. [2] Her husband and her are both farmers. [1] Although they work hard to take care of their children, [1] Putri Tangguk realizes that she does not have much time for her children due to her tiring work. [1] One day, Putri Tangguk tells her husband about a plan she forms, [1] filling up their warehouse with rice and other supplies so that they will not have to work as much or as long. [1] They do this, and on a rainy day, Putri Tangguk walks with her family to the rice field after the sky clears. [1] Suddenly, she slips on the wet ground. [1] She becomes angry at the road and curses it. [2] Nonetheless, they continue on to the rice fields. [2] On their return home, they walk along the same road. [2] Putri Tangguk sows a rice paddy on that road so that it will not ever be slippery again. [2] However, she quickly regrets this act after she realizes that the rice paddy is important. [2] The lesson of the story is to be thankful for what one has. [1]

Cindelaras is a figure from East Javanese folklore. He was the son of Raden Putra. His mother was exiled from Janggala Kingdom because she was blamed for the poisoning of the king's concubine. Later, she gave birth to a young boy named Cindelaras. One day, Cinderalas found an egg that was dropped by an eagle. He took care of the egg that hatched to become a mythical talking rooster. The rooster told Cinderalas about his father, a king of Janggala Kingdom, Raden Putra. Cindelaras then went to the palace with his magic chicken to meet his father. There he found that many people like cockfighting, and signed up his chickens to compete. It killed all the other roosters in a cockfight.

Legend of Lau Kawar is a North Sumatran folk legend about an ungrateful son who does not honor his mother. Today Lau Kawar is the name of a lake in Karo Regency, but the legend suggests that the lake was once a village. The village, named Kawar, was submerged following an earthquake and heavy rain. The disaster was caused by God in response to a mother’s prayer asking for punishment for her sinful son.

Sabai Nan Aluih is folklore that was written by Tulis Sutan Sati. This folklore originated from West Sumatra. Sabai Nan Aluih is the name of Raja Babanding daughter. She has beautiful face. One day, Raja Nan Panjang sends his guard to Raja Babanding to tell him that Raja Nan Panjang wants to propose Sabai Nan Aluih. Raja Babanding rejects the proposal and challenges Raja Nan Panjang to fight him. Raja Nan Panjang approves that challenge. In that fight, Raja Babanding is killed by Raja Nan Panjang's guard. This incident is known by Sabai Nan Aluih. She kills Raja Nan Panjang as revenge for her father's death.

Dayang Bandir and Sandean Raja is Simalungun folklore that located at Sumatera Utara. Dayang Bandir and Sandean Raja are brother and sister. Seven years after Dayang Bandir is born, their parents die. Dayang Bandir's and Sandean Raja's father is a king that ruled the eastern kingdom. They live with their uncle named Kareang. They have another uncle that ruled the western kingdom named Raja Soma. Sandean Raja is the successor of the eastern kingdom after his father died. But, Sandean Raja is too young to be a king. So Kareang replaces Sandean Raja's position until he is old enough to be king. Kareang is ambitious to be king but he needs eastern kingdom heirlooms to claim the king position from Sandean Raja. Dayang Bandir knows his uncle's ambition so she hides the eastern kingdom heirlooms. Kareang is really angry because of what Dayang Bandir has done. He takes Dayang Bandir and Sandean Raja to the forest and kills Dayang Bandir by hanging Dayang Bandir's body at a tree in the middle of the forest. After that, Kareang leaves the bodies of Dayang Bandir and Sandean Raja in forest. Sandean Raja succeeds in getting out from the forest and he goes to the western kingdom. In the western kingdom, Sandean Raja has been kept by Raja Soma. He marries Raja Soma's Daughter. After a few years, Sandean Raja attacks Kareang kingdom and ruled Eastern Kingdom and Western Kingdom.
