The Q6 constitutes a bus route between Jamaica, Queens, and John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York City. Originally operated by Green Bus Lines, it is now operated by the MTA Bus Company. It does not serve the terminals at JFK Airport. Limited-stop service, which began in 2010, operates in the peak direction during rush hours.
The Q6 starts at 165th Street Bus Terminal, using Merrick Boulevard southbound at 168th Street northbound to reach Jamaica Avenue, heading west on it until Sutphin Boulevard. It turns south on Sutphin Boulevard until reaching the southern end at Rockaway Boulevard and running east on that street until Nassau Expressway, crossing it to turn east on North Boundary Road and following Eastern Road until terminating by the JFK Postal Facility. The Q6 Limited operates rush hours in the peak direction (to Jamaica AM, from Jamaica PM), making limited stops north of Rockaway Boulevard. When the Q6 Limited operates, some Q6 locals operate to/from Rockaway Boulevard. The Q6 operates out of the JFK Depot.
The bus started operating on July 19, 1922 by Queens Bus Corporation. It was then taken over by Green Bus Lines. The northern terminal was moved to Jamaica Union Bus Terminal (Jamaica Avenue and Brewer Boulevard) on August 16, 1936. By 1975, its terminals in Jamaica were Sutphin Boulevard and Hillside Avenue, and 165th Street and Archer Avenue. On October 30, 1989, all Q6 service was rerouted to serve the 165th Street Bus Terminal. [3] [4] [5]
The Q6 Limited-stop service was added on April 19, 2010. [6] [7]
In December 2019, the MTA released a draft redesign of the Queens bus network. [8] [9] As part of the redesign, the current Q6 would have been discontinued, with the QT20 replacing service on Sutphin Boulevard and the QT62 bus would replace service on Rockaway Boulevard. [10] The redesign was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City in 2020, [11] and the original draft plan was dropped due to negative feedback. [12]
A revised plan was released in March 2022. [13] As part of the new plan, the Q6 would still be discontinued and have service on Sutphin Boulevard replaced by an extended Q1 and service on Rockaway Boulevard replaced by a streamlined Q7. [14]
A final bus-redesign plan was released in December 2023. [15] [16] The final plan preserved the Q6 and did not make changes to its routing, although the Q6 would be converted into a limited route with slightly fewer stops. [17]
On December 17, 2024, addendums made to the final plan were released. Among these, current frequencies on the Q6 will be retained. [18]
The Sutphin Boulevard–Archer Avenue–JFK Airport station is a two-level station on the IND and BMT Archer Avenue Lines of the New York City Subway. It is located at the intersection of Sutphin Boulevard and Archer Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. It is served by the E and J trains at all times, as well as the Z train during rush hours in the peak direction. This station has four tracks and two island platforms, with two platform levels: E trains stop on the upper level while J/Z trains stop on the lower level.
Green Bus Lines, also referred to as Green Lines, was a private bus company in New York City. It operated local service in Queens and express service to Manhattan until January 9, 2006, when the city-operated MTA Bus Company took over its routes. It was managed most recently by Jerome Cooper (1928–2015).
The Sumner Avenue Line and New Lots Avenue Line were two streetcar lines in Brooklyn, New York City, running mainly along Marcus Garvey Boulevard, East 98th Street, and New Lots Avenue between northern Bedford–Stuyvesant and New Lots. Originally streetcar lines, the two lines were combined as a bus route in 1947. That bus route became the present B15 Marcus Garvey Boulevard / New Lots Avenue service, operated by MTA New York City Bus' East New York Depot in East New York. The B15 continues east from New Lots to John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens.
The Q4 bus route constitutes a public transit corridor running along Merrick Boulevard and the easternmost portion of Linden Boulevard in southeastern Queens, New York City. The route runs from the Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer station to Cambria Heights near the Queens–Nassau County border. The Q4 also provides limited-stop service along the corridor during peak weekday hours. The route is now operated by MTA Regional Bus Operations under the New York City Transit brand.

The Queens Boulevard station was a local station on the demolished section of the BMT Jamaica Line in Queens, New York City. It had two tracks and two side platforms, with space for a third track in the center. This station was built as part of the Dual Contracts. It opened on July 3, 1918, and was closed in 1985 in anticipation of the Archer Avenue Subway, and due to political pressure in the area. The next stop to the north was Sutphin Boulevard, until it was closed in 1977 and Queens Boulevard became a terminal station. The next stop to the south was Metropolitan Avenue.

The Q11, Q21, Q52, and Q53 bus routes constitute a public transit corridor running along Woodhaven and Cross Bay Boulevards in Queens, New York City. The corridor extends primarily along the length of the two boulevards through "mainland" Queens, a distance of 6 miles (9.7 km) between Elmhurst and the Jamaica Bay shore in Howard Beach. The Q52 and Q53 buses, which provide Select Bus Service along the corridor, continue south across Jamaica Bay to the Rockaway peninsula, one of the few public transit options between the peninsula and the rest of the city.

The Q5 and Q85 bus routes constitute a public transit corridor running along Merrick Boulevard in southeastern Queens, New York City. The routes run from the Jamaica Center transit hub and business district to Rosedale, with continued service to Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, Nassau County. The Q4 and Q84 buses also serve the northern portion of the corridor, before diverging east along Linden Boulevard and 120th Avenue respectively. The Q4, Q5, and Q85 also provide limited-stop service along the corridor. The routes on the corridor mainly serve as feeder routes to New York City Subway services at Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer station.
The Richmond Hill Line is a surface transit line on Myrtle Avenue in Queens, New York City. Once a streetcar line owned by the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation, it was replaced on April 26, 1950 by the B55 bus route. The trolley tracks were not removed until April 1955, when Myrtle Avenue was being repaved. On December 11, 1988, the bus was relabeled as the Q55 Myrtle Avenue (East) bus route (as opposed to the B54 route on the western portion of Myrtle Avenue), operated by the New York City Transit Authority.
The Q1, Q36, and Q43 bus routes constitute a public transit line in Queens, New York City. The routes run primarily along Hillside Avenue from the Jamaica, Queens commercial and transportation hub towards several eastern Queens neighborhoods on the city border with Nassau County. Originally operated by the North Shore Bus Company until 1947, all three routes are now operated by MTA Regional Bus Operations under the New York City Transit brand.
