Queen Elizabeth is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language film directed by M Padmakumar and produced by Ranjith Manambarakkat, M. Padmakumar, and Sreeram Manambarakkar. It features Meera Jasmine in the title role, with Narain, as the main male lead. [1] The other supporting cast includes Shweta Menon, Johny Antony, Neena Kurup, Jude Anthany Joseph, Manju Pathros, and VK Prakash. [2] The film was released theatrically on December 29, 2023. [3] Subsequently, it premiered on ZEE5 on February 14, 2024. [4]
The movie is a light-hearted entertainer set in an urban backdrop about a headstrong unmarried woman named Elizabeth, who leads a simple life. While her character is frowned upon by the people around her, Alex is in a pursuit to win her over. Things change when Elizabeth goes to Coimbatore for a business meeting. She is diagnosed with 3rd stage pancreatic cancer. She finds out that she has just three more months to live and changes her character. She befriends her employees and molds her relationship with her family. She becomes close to Alex and slowly falls in love with him. Towards the end, Elizabeth discloses her health issue to Alex, and they visit Dr. Vysakh. It is revealed that the doctor who consulted Elizabeth was suffering from a mental disorder due to her child's death from pancreatic cancer and that Elizabeth does not have cancer. The climax shows Elizabeth married to Alex and living happily.
The film saw the lead cast Meera Jasmine and Narain reuniting after 17 years after they were seen together in Achuvinte Amma (2005), Ore Kadal (2007) and Minnaminnikoottam (2008). [5] The shoots of Queen Elizabeth started in Kochi in April 2023 [6] and was wrapped by May 1, 2023. [7]
The movie generated positive reviews. OnManorama commented, “The movie is quite charming and will work for those who prefer watching films in the romantic comedy genre. [8] Malayalam Samayam rated it 3 out of 5. [9] OTT Play also rated it 3 out of 5 while commenting, “The movie satisfies the criteria for a family entertainer.” [10]
Jasmine Mary Joseph, known professionally as Meera Jasmine, is an Indian actress who appears primarily in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films. Meera made her debut in 2001 with the Lohithadas film Soothradharan. She went on to star in various commercial and critically successful films in south Indian languages making her one of the successful actresses of the 2000s.
Sunil Kumar, known by his stage name Narain, is an Indian actor, who has starred in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. He made his debut in Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Nizhalkuthu (2002), followed by performances in Malayalam films 4 the People (2004), Achuvinte Amma (2005), and Classmates (2006). Narain's Tamil and Telugu debuts were in Mysskin's Chithiram Pesuthadi (2006) and Jayaraj's Yuvasena (2004).
Achuvinte Amma is a 2005 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by Sathyan Anthikad and written by Ranjan Pramod from a story by Rajesh Jayaraman. It stars Urvashi, Meera Jasmine and Narain. The music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It was also a comeback movie for Urvashi in Malayalam after a gap of six years. The film has won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress (Urvashi), Filmfare Award for Best Film - Malayalam, and Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Malayalam for Meera Jasmine.
Ore Kadal is a 2007 Malayalam-language film written and directed by Shyamaprasad. The film is based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s Bengali novel Hirak Deepthi. The film examines the extra-marital relationship between an intellectual economist and a housewife. It stars Mammootty, Meera Jasmine, Narain and Ramya Krishnan.

He began his career as a television anchor and later as an associate director to Joshiy and Johny Antony. He debuted as an independent director in 2010 with Pokkiri Raja starring Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Jude Anthany Joseph is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor, who works in Malayalam film industry. His directorial debut was with Ohm Shanthi Oshaana in 2014, which won the Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value at the 45th Kerala State Film Awards. His film 2018 received positive reviews and grossed around ₹200 crores at the box office to emerge as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all-time. On 27 September 2023, the film was chosen by the Film Federation of India as India's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
