Rainer Adrion (born 10 December 1953) is a German football manager and former defender.

Coaching career

Adrion was head coach of SpVgg Unterhaching on two occasions. The first stint was from July 1991 to May 1993 and the second stint was from September 2001 to April 2002. [2] Adrion went on to be the head coach at VfB Stuttgart II; managing them on three occasions. The first stint started in January 1996. [3] He was their head coach for them until he became head coach of the first team in December 1998. The third stint happened from June 2004 [4] to June 2009 when he became the new head coach for the Germany U21 team. [5] Then Adrion was head coach of VfB Stuttgart from December 1998 [6] to May 1999. [7] Adrion was winless in his last eight matches. [7] He had two wins during his tenure. [8] After his second spell at Unterhaching, Adrion became head coach at Stuttgarter Kickers from March 2003 [9] to October 2003. [10] Adrion became the new head coach for the Germany U21 team in June 2009. [5] He was sacked in June 2013 after failing to get out of the group stage of the European Championship. [11]

Adrin has two sons, Benjamin is a former footballer, currently journalist of the Magazin "VIVA St. Pauli" and his second son Nico is also professional footballer.

Armin Veh is a German football manager and former player who last managed Eintracht Frankfurt. He won the German championship with Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart in 2007. Veh and his team also had the chance to win "the double" by winning the DFB-Pokal on 26 May 2007 in Berlin, but lost 3–2 in extra time against 1. FC Nürnberg. From 11 December 2017 to 8 December 2019, Veh was the sports director of 1. FC Köln. During his playing career, he played as a midfielder.

Sixty-four teams competed in the tournament of six rounds which began on 9 August 1996 and ended on 16 June 1997. In the final, VfB Stuttgart defeated third tier Energie Cottbus 2–0, thereby claiming their third title.

The 2008–09 3. Liga was the inaugural season for the newly formed tier III of the German football league system. The inaugural game was played on 25 July 2008 between FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and Dynamo Dresden, ending with a 1–0 win for Dresden. The last games were played on 23 May 2009. 1. FC Union Berlin were the inaugural champions, securing first place on 10 May 2009. Runners-up Fortuna Düsseldorf were also promoted. Third-placed team SC Paderborn 07 played a relegation/promotion play-off against the 16th-placed team from 2. Bundesliga, VfL Osnabrück, winning both games and earning promotion. Kickers Emden, VfR Aalen, and Stuttgarter Kickers were relegated to the Regionalliga.

The 2009–10 3. Liga season was the second season for the newly formed tier III of the German football league system. The season began on 25 July 2009 and ended on 8 May 2010.
