Raj Kishor Singh is an Indian politician who served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the state Samajwadi Party from 2002 to 2017. He was a minister for Panchayati raj. Before the government of Mulayam Singh, Mr Singh was also a cabinet minister.

Early life and education

Singh was born 1 February 1969 in Changerwa, Basti, Uttar Pradesh to his father Anant Singh. He married Suman Singh. They have two sons. He belongs to Rajput community. He had B.A. degree from APN Degree College, Basti. His son Devendra Pratap Singh "Sanu" is also President of District council of Basti, and his younger brother Brijkishor Singh "Dimple" is a former Loksabha candidate of Basti Loksabha Constituency from Samajwadi Party.[ citation needed ]

Political career

Singh was MLA three straight times. He started his political career as a Member of District council in 2000. In 2002 he was also elected Member of the Legislative Assembly from Harraiya as a member of Bahujan Samaj Party but in 2003 he resigned from Bahujan Samaj Party and joined the Samajwadi Party. In Mulayam Singh Yadav cabinet he became a cabinet minister. [2]

In the 2007 election he again represented the Samajwadi Party from Harraiya and he defeated his nearest rival, the Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Anil Singh, by a margin of 5,145 votes. [2]

For third time in 2012, he was again elected three times continuously from Harraiya, he defeated his nearest rival Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Mamata Pandey by a margin of 20,286 votes. He is also cabinet minister of Animal husbandry and Panchayati Raj in Akhilesh Yadav cabinet. [2]

In 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh (2017), he lost to Bhartiya Janta Party candidate Ajay Kumar Singh by a margin of 30,106 votes. [2]

On 9 April 2019 in New Delhi he joined Indian National Congress in presence of General secretary Priyanka Gandhi. [3] [4]

Dara Singh Chauhan is an Indian politician, currently serving as member of legislative council, and formerly represented the Madhuban in Uttar Pradesh as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was former Cabinet Minister in Yogi Adityanath ministry. He also represented Ghosi in the 15th Lok Sabha, where he was leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party. In 16th Lok Sabha, he was defeated by Harinarayan Rajbhar who represented Bharatiya Janata Party by more than 140,000 votes.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was an Indian politician, a socialist figure and founder of the Samajwadi Party. Over the course of his political career spanning more than six decades, he served for three terms as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and also as the Union Minister of Defence in the Government of India. A long-time parliamentarian, he was a seven-time Member of Parliament representing Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Sambhal and Kannauj constituencies in the Lok Sabha, a ten-time member of the Legislative Assembly, member of the Legislative Council and the Leader of Opposition for several times as well. The veteran politician was a prominent figure of his time in Indian Politics, and was often referred to as Netaji and Dhartiputra by party leaders and workers. In 2023, the socialist leader was posthumously conferred with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award by the Government of India.

Ram Govind Chaudhary is one of the prominent socialist leaders of India who has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2017 to 2022. He was in charge of Basic Education and Child Nutrition and Development Ministries in previous Samajwadi Party Government of Uttar Pradesh led by Akhilesh Yadav. He is Member of Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from the Bansdih assembly seat, Ballia.

Keshav Prasad Maurya is an Indian politician, currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Maurya was associated with a right-wing Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, before entering active politics through BJP. He was also involved in cow protectionism in his early life. Before 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, he was made state president of the BJP, and after the victory of BJP, he was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in the first Yogi Adityanath Government. He was assigned Dairy And Milk State Minister in Akhilesh Yadav's cabinet in Uttar Pradesh. He was National President of Samajwadi Party Kshatra Sabha.

Swami Prasad Maurya is an Indian politician and was a member of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh of India. He represented the Padrauna constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He was a member of Samajwadi Party till 2024 to which he resigned. Maurya has been a Member of the legislative assembly for five terms, has been a minister in the government of Uttar Pradesh, Leader of the house, and Leader of the opposition. Haji Ikram Qureshi is an Indian politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh representing the Moradabad constituency on a Samajwadi Party ticket. He is also the district president of the party.

Shakir Ali is an Indian politician and former cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. He served as the MLA from Pathardeva in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after being elected in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as a Samajwadi Party candidate.

A three-time legislator and a senior member of the Samajwadi Party, Pandit Singh represented Gonda assembly constituency in the 13th, 14th and 16th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly which is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Uttar Pradesh. He also served as a cabinet minister in the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh under the chief ministership of Akhilesh Yadav. He also contested the 2019 parliamentary elections from Gonda but lost to Kirti Vardhan Singh of BJP. He died on 7 May 2021 from COVID-19 related complications at the age of 59 years.
