The Florida State League (FSL) is a Minor League Baseball league based in the state of Florida. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence,it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the Low-A Southeast before reassuming its original moniker in 2022.

During the Democratic primary,former Governor C. Farris Bryant and State Senator Lawton Chiles advanced to a run-off,having received more votes than Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Frederick H. Schultz,attorney Alcee Hastings,and State Representative Joel T. Daves III. Chiles soundly defeated Bryant in the run-off election,scoring a major upset due to his comparatively small name recognition prior to the election. To acquire name recognition and media coverage,Chiles walked about 1,003 miles (1,614 km) across the state of Florida and was given the nickname "Walkin' Lawton".

He was a standout college football player for the University of Florida football teams of the late 1920s,and later returned to his alma mater as a professor and coach,and ultimately as the long-time dean of the College of Health and Human Performance.
Frank Carpenter Mockler was an American attorney who served as the governor of American Samoa. Mockler was the county attorney for Fremont County,Wyoming. He was Speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives in 1951 as a Republican. He was Secretary of American Samoa under John Morse Haydon. Mockler took the office of Governor of American Samoa on October 15,1974,and ended his term on February 6,1975. After leaving the governor's seat,Mockler moved to Longboat Key,Florida.
Ion Lowndes Farris was an American politician and attorney from the state of Florida. He served as both a member of the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. He served twice as the speaker of the Florida House of Representatives at a time when the legislature met only once every two years,in both 1909 and 1913,and president of the Florida Senate in 1913. He was an ardent supporter of former Governor of Florida Napoleon Broward,and led the effort to get Broward County named after him. He also led efforts to reduce the number of committees in the Senate. In 1916,he made a run for governor,but lost the Democrat primary. However,he led efforts to drain the Everglades,and forced the other candidates to take a position on the issue.

Nell Foster Rogers (1886-1974) of Gainesville,Florida,affectionately known as the 'Bloomer Girl',was a "people's lobbyist for better government" and Florida legislative icon for nearly 30 years. Rogers was the first woman to graduate in agriculture from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College,where as a student she campaigned for woman's suffrage,thus beginning her lifelong cause as an activist. In 1947,she traveled to Tallahassee to oppose a bill requiring rabies inoculations for dogs. This marked the beginning of her long career as a watchdog over Florida's government.

In 2014,Halifax acquired the Telegram &Gazette of Worcester,Massachusetts. In November 2014,New Media Investment Group announced its acquisition of Halifax. The company was created with the assistance of Stephens Inc.
