Ranjan Kumar Mallik (born 1964) is an Indian electrical and communications engineer and a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. [1] He held the Jai Gupta Chair at IIT Delhi from 2007 to 2012 [2] and the Brigadier Bhopinder Singh Chair from 2012 to 2017. [3] He is known for his researches on multiple-input multi-output systems [4] and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, [5] Indian National Science Academy, [6] and The National Academy of Sciences, India. [7] He is also an elected fellow of The World Academy of Sciences, [8] Indian National Academy of Engineering, [9] and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. [10]

R. K. Mallik, born in November 1964 in Kolkata, the capital city of the Indian state of West Bengal, to Radharaman Mallik and Tapati, earned a BTech in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1987. [12] [13] His higher studies were at the University of Southern California from where he completed an MS in electrical engineering in 1988 and followed it up with a PhD in 1992. [1] Returning to India, he joined Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, Hyderabad the same year as a Grade C Scientist and worked there for two years till his move to the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1994 as a lecturer. [14] His stay at IIT Kharagpur lasted till 1996 during which period he served as an assistant professor during 1995–96. His next move was to the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati as an assistant professor and in 1998 he shifted his base to Delhi to join the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi where he serves as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. In between, he held the IDRC Research Chair in Wireless Communications from 2009 to 2015, the Jai Gupta Chair from 2007 to 2012, [2] and the Brigadier Bhopinder Singh Chair from 2012 to 2017. [3] He is also associated with Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management of IIT Delhi as a faculty. [15]

Mallik is married to Sumona DasGupta and the couple has one child, Upamanyu. [7]

Mallik's researches have been in the fields of communication theory and systems, difference equations, and linear algebra [16] and he has worked extensively on the performance analysis of multiple-input multi-output systems, especially characterization of fading channel statistics and error analysis under correlated fading conditions. [4] He has documented his researches by way of several articles; [17] [note 2] Google Scholar and ResearchGate, online article repositories of scientific articles, have listed many of them. [18] [19] Besides, he has contributed chapters to books including the 2011 edition of Issues in Telecommunications Research published by ScholarlyEditions. [20]

Mallik is a member of the Program Advisory Committee on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering of the Science and Engineering Research Board of the Department of Science and Technology. [21] He is a former treasurer (2005 and 2006) of the Delhi Section of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) [22] and served as a member of IEEE Communications Society's Awards Standing Committee during 2015-2017. [23] He is a founder member of the Communication Systems and Networks Association (COMSNETS) [24] and has contributed to the organizing of several conferences. The invited or key note speeches delivered by him include the lecture on Performance Evaluation and Channel Characterization for Wireless Communication System at National Science day (2009), [25] the address on Optimal Signaling for Multi-Level Amplitude-Shift Keying with Single-Input Multiple-Output and Non-coherent Reception at CALCON (2014), [26] Alexander Graham Bell lecture of IEEE (2015), [27] and the keynote speech at IEEE Patna 5G Summit (2016). Awards and honors

Mallik became an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India in 2007. [29] He received the Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Award in electronics, telematics, informatics, and automation of the Physical Research Laboratory in 2008 [30] and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, one of the highest Indian science awards the same year. [31] The Indian National Science Academy elected him as a fellow in 2011 [32] and the Indian Academy of Sciences followed suit a year later. [5] In addition, the years 2012 and 2013 brought him two elected fellowships; that of The World Academy of Sciences [33] and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., respectively. [34] He is also an elected fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology [12] and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. [35]

He works on the design and analysis of Database Systems. In 2009 he won the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize sponsored by CSIR, India. In 2014 he won the Infosys Prize for Engineering.

V Ramgopal Rao is an Indian academic currently serving as the Group Vice Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani for campuses located in Pilani, Dubai, Goa, Hyderabad and Mumbai. He was previously the Director of IIT, Delhi for six years during 2016-2021.

Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay is an Indian scientist specializing in computational biology. A professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, she is a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize winner in Engineering Science for 2010, IInfosys Prize 2017 laureate in the Engineering and Computer Science category and TWAS Prize winner for Engineering Sciences in 2018. Her research is mainly in the areas of evolutionary computation, pattern recognition, machine learning and bioinformatics. Since 1 August 2015, she has been the Director of the Indian Statistical Institute, and she would oversee the functioning of all five centres of Indian Statistical Institute located at Kolkata, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, and Tezpur besides several other Statistical Quality Control & Operation Research Units spread across India. She is the first woman Director of the Indian Statistical Institute. Currently she is on the Prime Ministers' Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council. In 2022 she was given the Padma Shri award for Science and Engineering by the Government of India.

Vaidyeswaran Rajaraman is an Indian engineer, academic and writer, known for his pioneering efforts in the field of Computer Science Education in India. He is credited with the establishment of the first academic program in computer science in India, which he helped initiate at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1965. An elected fellow of all the Indian science academies, he is a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian award in Science and Technology category for young scientists and several other honors including Om Prakash Bhasin Award and Homi Bhabha Prize. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honor of the Padma Bhushan, in 1998, for his contributions to science.

Mangalore Anantha Pai was an Indian electrical engineer, academic and a Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. A former professor of electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, he is known for his contributions in the fields of power stability, power grids, large scale power system analysis, system security and optimal control of nuclear reactors and he has published 8 books and several articles. Pai is the first India born scientist to be awarded a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Suhash Chandra Dutta Roy is an Indian electrical engineer and a former professor and head of the department of electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is known for his studies on analog and digital signal processing and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Sciences, India as well as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Systems Society of India and Acoustical Society of India, The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 1981.

Surendra Prasad is an Indian communications engineer, a former director and an Usha chair professor of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is also an emeritus professor of Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology And Management, a joint venture of IIT Delhi and is known for developing new techniques, algorithms and hardware in signal processing. He is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Subimal Ghosh is Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Convener of the Interdisciplinary Program in Climate Studies at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay with research interests in hydrology and hydro-climatology.
