Ray Looze (born May 12, 1967, in the San Francisco Bay Area), is an American swimming coach.

Education

Looze joined Texas university, he volunteered there learning the ropes before heading off to the Peddie boarding school in New Jersey.[ citation needed ]

Swimming career

Looze is also a former national-team swimmer for the USA. He was a medalist at the 1991 Pan American Games, and swam for USC Trojans in college, from 1986 to 1990.[ citation needed ]

Coaching career

Looze began his coaching career after finishing 3rd at his last Olympic trials. He was the head coach at the University of the Pacific (UOP). Since June 2002, he has been the head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers. [1] He runs both the men's and women's swimming programs. [2]

In 2016 Looze was a Women's Assistant Coach for the 2016 USA Olympic Swimming Team. He also served as a coach for the USA team to the 2014 Short Course Worlds. [3] At the 2016 Olympic Swimming Trials, Looze coached Cody Miller, Blake Pieroni, and Lilly King who all qualified for the team. [4]

Personal life

Looze moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he met the love of his life Kandis Perry, who now goes by Kandis Looze (and was born May 10, 1966), at the Olympic training center as they both had kids on their swim clubs make the national team. After marrying Kandis, they moved to Stockon, CA.[ citation needed ]

Awards and recognition

In 2016, he was named Big 10 Coach of the Year, an honor he has received ten times in other years as well. [5] [2] In 2018, he was named CSCAA National Swimming Coach of the Year. [2]

Family

Looze is married to Kandis Looze and has one daughter and one son. His daughter, MacKenzie, was born in Stockon, CA on January 13, 2000. Currently, she swims for Coach Looze at Indiana and his son, Bryce, born on July 30, 1998, and currently attends Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN. Mackenzie was also coached in high school by her mother who is one of the top swimming coaches in the country. Looze met Kandis at the Olympic training center (aka the OTC) where they both had swimmers on the national team. It was love at first sight for this pair of coaches and they were quickly married just five and a half months later. [6]

David "Dave" Charles Berkoff is an American former competition Hall of Fame swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder in two events. Berkoff was a backstroke specialist who won a total of four medals during his career at the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992. He is best known for breaking the world record for the 100-meter backstroke three times, beginning at the 1988 Olympic trial preliminaries, becoming the first swimmer to go under 55 seconds for the event. He is also remembered for his powerful underwater backstroke start, the eponymous "Berkoff Blastoff" which after a strong push-off from the side of the pool used a horizontal body position with locked arms outstretched overhead and an undulating or wavelike aerodynamic dolphin kick to provide thrust and build speed.

Lindsay Dianne Benko, known by her married name Lindsay Mintenko since 2005, is an American former competition swimmer, two-time Olympian, former world record-holder, and a managing director of USA swimming. She represented the United States women as a Team Captain at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, taking a gold medal in freestyle relays both years. She held the short-course world record in the 400-meter freestyle at 3:59.53, for nearly three years from January 2003 to December 2005.

The Auburn Tigers swimming and diving program is Auburn University's representative in the sport of swimming and diving. The Tigers compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 and are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The program started in 1932 when the pool was in the basement of the gymnasium. The program had to telegraph their timed results to other schools and compare as the pool was too small for competitions.

John "Jonty" Alexander Skinner is a former Hall of Fame South African competition swimmer and world record-holder, who for over forty years served as an American club and college swimming coach primarily at his alma mater, the University of Alabama before retiring as a coach in 2020. He coached the US national team in the mid-1990s, remaining as a Director of Team Performance through 2008.

Cody William Miller is an American competitive swimmer. He is a former world record holder in both the men's 4×50 meter freestyle relay and the mixed 4×50 meter freestyle relay as well as a former American record holder in the long course 100 meter breaststroke and short course 50 meter, 100 meter, and 200 meter breaststroke events. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the 100 meter breaststroke and a gold medal in the 4×100 meter medley relay, swimming the breaststroke leg of the relay in the final to help achieve a new Olympic record. In 2019, he won the silver medal in the 100 meter breaststroke at the year's Pan American Games. He competes representing DC Trident in the International Swimming League.

Lillia Camille King is an American swimmer who specializes in breaststroke. She currently represents the Cali Condors, a team that is part of the International Swimming League. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke competition and also won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay, in which she swam the breaststroke leg. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, King won a silver medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay for her efforts in the prelims, the silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke, and the bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. She is the current world record holder in the long course 100-meter breaststroke.

Drew Johansen is an American diving coach. He served as coach of the USA diving team for the 2012 London Olympics, 2016 Rio Olympics, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He is also Indiana University's diving head coach.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Emma Reaney</span> American swimmer (born 1992)

Emma Reaney is a former competition breaststroke and individual medley swimmer and current swim coach. She is an 8-time All-American and 5-time All-American honorable mention. She medaled for Team USA at the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships and the 2015 Summer Universiade. She has set American records in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 4x50 meter medley relay. As of 2021, Reaney still held 4 Notre Dame swimming event records.
