Ray Ricardo Wynter (born 27 November 1955) is a former Jamaican cricketer who played first-class and one-day cricket for Jamaica from 1975 until 1982. A right-handed batsman and right-arm opening bowler,he played 30 matches in all in those formats. [1] In 1983,Wynter participated in a rebel tour of South Africa. As a result,he and all the other players on the tour received a lifetime ban from West Indian cricket. [1] Wynter later emigrated to the United States,and played for the U.S. national team at the 1990 ICC Trophy.
A native of Jamaica's capital,Kingston, [1] Wynter played at under-19 level for Jamaica,representing the team in the regional under-19 competition. [2] He made his senior first-class debut on 16 January 1976,against the Combined Islands in the Shell Shield. [3] His first season saw him appear in five first-class matches,taking 10 wickets at 25.50. He took 5/48 against Guyana,which was to be a career-best. [4] Wynter played only one limited-overs match in his first season,taking 2/27 against Barbados in the Gillette Cup. [5]
Wynter had little success in his second Shell Shield season,taking only four wickets at 75.00 with a best of 2/28. [4] He again played only a single one-day match. [5] During the 1977–78 season,Wynter played in only two Shell Shield matches,taking a single wicket and also registering three ducks from four innings. [6] [4] However,he performed better in the one-day format,taking a career-best 3/15 against the Windward Islands. Wynter only appeared sporadically for Jamaica over the following seasons,in some cases not playing at all. [4] [5]
The 1981–82 season was Wynter's last for Jamaica. He appeared in five first-class matches, taking a career-best taking 14 wickets for the season (at 32.85). [4] The following season, in January and February 1983, Wynter left Jamaica and controversially toured South Africa with a West Indies XI. The tour drew heavy criticism, due to its breaking of the sporting boycott of the country (in place during apartheid). Wynter played only a single major fixture on tour, a match against the South African national team. Opening the bowling with Sylvester Clarke in South Africa's first innings, he took the wickets of Kevin McKenzie and Garth Le Roux, finishing with 2/26. [7] For taking part in the rebel tour, Wynter and the other participants received a life ban from professional cricket in the West Indies. [8] [1] He subsequently settled in the United States.
After his ban, Wynter settled in the United States. [8] He continued playing cricket there, and at the age of 34 was selected to play for the American national team at the 1990 ICC Trophy in the Netherlands (the qualification tournament for the 1992 World Cup). [9] Wynter played in all six of his team's matches at the tournament, taking seven wickets at an average of 20.28. Among his teammates, only Zamin Amin and Kamran Rasheed took more wickets. [10] Wynter's best performance at the tournament was 3/30 from nine overs, taken against Papua New Guinea. The only other game in which he took more than a single wicket was against Kenya, where he took 2/39. [9]
Courtney Andrew Walsh OJ is a Jamaican former cricketer who represented the West Indies from 1984 to 2001, captaining the West Indies in 22 Test matches. He is a fast bowler and considered one of the all-time greats, best known for a remarkable opening bowling partnership along with fellow West Indian Curtly Ambrose for several years. Walsh played 132 Tests and 205 ODIs for the West Indies and took 519 and 227 wickets respectively. He shared 421 Test wickets with Ambrose in 49 matches. He held the record of most Test wickets from 2000, after he broke the record of Kapil Dev. This record was later broken in 2004 by Shane Warne. He was the first bowler to reach 500 wickets in Test cricket. His autobiography is entitled "Heart of the Lion". Walsh was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1987. In October 2010, he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. He was appointed as the Specialist Bowling Coach of Bangladesh Cricket Team in August 2016.
Anil Kumble is an Indian former cricket player, coach and commentator who played Test and One Day International cricket for his national team over an international career of 18 years. Widely regarded as one of the best leg spinners and one of the greatest bowlers in Test Cricket History, he took 619 wickets in Test cricket and was the third highest wicket taker of all time at the time of his retirement in 2008. In 1999 while playing against Pakistan, Kumble dismissed all ten batsmen in a Test match innings, joining England's Jim Laker as the second player to achieve the feat. Unlike his contemporaries, Kumble was not a big turner of the ball, but relied primarily on pace, bounce, and accuracy. He was nicknamed "Apple" and "Jumbo". Kumble was selected as the Cricketer of the Year in 1993 Indian Cricket, and one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year three years later. Kumble was a member of the Indian team that was one of the joint-winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, which the title was also shared with Sri Lanka.
Irfan Pathan is an Indian cricket commentator, analyst and former cricketer. He was a bowling all-rounder and member of the Indian cricket team that won the inaugural 2007 ICC Twenty20 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Makhaya Ntini is a South African former professional cricketer, who played all forms of the game. He was the first black player to play for the South African national cricket team. Ntini was a member of the South Africa team that won the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy, the only ICC trophy the country has won to date.
Malcolm Denzil Marshall was a Barbadian cricketer. Primarily a fast bowler, Marshall is widely regarded as one of the greatest and one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of the modern era in Test cricket. He is often acknowledged as the greatest West Indian fast bowler of all time, and certainly one of the most complete fast bowlers the cricketing world ever saw. His Test bowling average of 20.94 is the second best of anyone who has taken 200 or more wickets. He achieved his bowling success despite being, by the standards of other fast bowlers of his time, a short man – he stood at 180 cm, while most of the great quicks have been well above 183 cm and many great West Indian fast bowlers, such as Joel Garner, Curtly Ambrose, and Courtney Walsh, were 197 cm or above. He generated fearsome pace from his bowling action, with a dangerous bouncer. He also statistically went on to become the most successful Test match bowler of the 1980s with 235 wickets with an average of 18.47 within a time period of just five years. Marshall was a part of the West Indies team that won the 1979 Cricket World Cup as well as the team which reached the 1983 Cricket World Cup Final, but lost to India by 43 runs.
Ravindranath Rampaul is a Trinidadian cricketer who plays as a pace bowler. He's played for the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago and IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rampaul has also featured for CPL outfits Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders along with English County cricket teams Surrey and Derbyshire. Rampaul was a notable member of the Windies side that won the 2012 T20 World Cup.
Nathan Wade Bracken is a former Australian cricketer. A tall left-arm fast-medium bowler, Bracken is capable of swinging the ball both ways. He has represented Australia in all forms of the game. Bracken represented New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket, Eastern Suburbs in Sydney Grade Cricket and also appeared for English County team Gloucestershire in 2004. On 28 January 2011 he announced his retirement from the game due to a chronic knee injury. On 9 February 2012 it was reported that he sued Cricket Australia over the latter's alleged incompetency in managing his knee injury. With his time representing Australia, Bracken won multiple ICC titles with the team: the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 Cricket World Cup, and the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy.
Lancelot Richard Gibbs is a former West Indies cricketer, one of the most successful spin bowlers in Test cricket history. He took 309 Test wickets, only the second player to pass 300, the first spinner to pass that milestone, and had an exceptional economy rate of under two runs per over. He was a member of the squad which won the 1975 Cricket World Cup.
Jerome Everton Taylor is a Jamaican cricketer who has played as a fast bowler for the West Indies. Taylor eventually picked up 100 wickets for the Windies in both tests and odis. During 2017 he reversed an initial decision to retire from international cricket. Taylor has also featured for Jamaica, English sides Somerset, Leicestershire and Sussex, CPL teams St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs and IPL sides Pune Warriors and Mumbai Indians in his cricketing career. Taylor was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2016 T20 World Cup. He is the only bowler to have ever taken a hat-trick in a Champions Trophy match, which he did in the 2006 tournament against Australia, and that was the first hat-trick taken by a West Indian bowler in the ODI format.
James Cullum Tredwell is an English former international cricketer. A left-handed batsman and a right-arm off break bowler, he played his domestic cricket for Kent County Cricket Club and was appointed as County Captain for the 2013 season. He made his debut for Kent in the 2001 season, nine days before his first appearance for England Under-19s. He often fielded at slip. Tredwell was a member of the England team that won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
Kemar Andre Jamal Roach is a Barbadian international cricketer who plays for the West Indies in Test and One Day Internationals. As a 5-foot-8-inch (1.73 m) pacer, Roach initially reached speeds of over 90 mph on regular occasions. After some time he adapted his bowling style, due to injuries and diminshed pace, to encourage augmented swing and movement of the ball. He triumphantly claimed the BBL02 title with the Brisbane Heat and was an essential part of the Surrey side which eventually won the 2022 County Championship title. During 2012 he became the first West Indies bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test since 2005. Roach has since picked up over 250 wickets in Tests and over 100 ODI wickets for the Windies. He has also featured for Barbados, Deccan Chargers, Worcestershire along with CPL teams Antigua Hawksbills, St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs in his cricketing career. Roach made history for the West Indies as he was the first West Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup, which he did against the Netherlands during the 2011 tournament.
Adil Usman Rashid is an English cricketer who plays for England in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket, and previously played for the Test team. In domestic cricket, he represents Yorkshire, and has played in multiple Twenty20 leagues, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs.2 Crore, in the 2023 Indian Premier League auction. He is regarded as one of the best English spinners of all-time.
Basanta Regmi is a Nepalese professional cricketer. An all-rounder, he bats left-handed and bowls left-arm orthodox spin. He made his debut for Nepal against Namibia in March 2006. He was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Nepal's first ever One Day International (ODI) match, against the Netherlands, in August 2018.
Søren Henriksen is a former Danish cricketer, who has played for the national team. Henriksen was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium.
Liam Andrew Dawson is an English cricketer who plays for Hampshire and for the England cricket team. He is a right-handed batsman who bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin. He made his international debut for England in July 2016, and has since played all three formats of the game for England, the last in 2022. Dawson was part of the England squad that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup, however, he did not play in any matches during the tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin is an Indian former international cricketer. He is a right-arm off spin bowler and a lower order batter. Widely regarded as one of the most prolific spinners of all time, he represented the Indian cricket team and was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He plays for Tamil Nadu and South Zone in domestic cricket and for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Umeshkumar Tilak Yadav is an Indian cricketer who represented the Indian cricket team. He currently plays for Vidarbha in domestic cricket and Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He played 57 test matches for India and his fast-bowling contributed of India winning test matches particularly at home. Yadav was a member of the team that won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He was the highest wicket-taker for India in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
Danny Richard Briggs is an English cricketer who currently plays for Warwickshire County Cricket Club, previously playing for Hampshire County Cricket Club and Sussex County Cricket Club. Briggs is a right-handed batsman who bowls slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Newport on the Isle of Wight and was educated on the island at Carisbrooke High School. Briggs is the first international player to be born on the Isle of Wight. Briggs made his debut for Hampshire County Cricket Club aged 18 in 2009, since his debut he has seen success in first-class and Twenty20 cricket. In 2011, he became the youngest English spin bowler to take 100 first-class wickets since Derek Underwood. He made his full international debut for England on 21 February 2012 against Pakistan in the fourth One Day International at the DSC Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Christopher Mark Brown, commonly known as Chris Brown, is an Cook Islander-New Zealand cricket umpire and former cricketer who previously played representative cricket for Auckland at New Zealand domestic level. Born in Rarotonga, Brown played his early cricket for Auckland under-age teams, and went on to represent the New Zealand national under-19s in several matches as a right-arm fast bowler. Making his first-class debut during the 1993–94 season of the Shell Trophy, he took ten wickets in his debut match, and represented the New Zealand Cricket Academy twice later in the season.
Duvvarapu Siva Kumar is an Indian-born American cricketer who played for Andhra cricket team. He is a bowling all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm fast-medium. He was a member of the India Under-19 cricket team that won the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He moved to the United States to play in the Minor League Cricket. He made his international debut for the United States cricket team in July 2022.
