Regina Goodwin (born September 22,1962) is an American politician who has served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from the 73rd district since 2015. [1] [2]
Regina Goodwin was born in Tulsa,Oklahoma and raised in Tulsa's historic Greenwood District, [3] which is commonly known as Black Wall Street. [4] She is a descendant of a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, [5] [6] [7] and is the daughter of Edward Goodwin,Jr. and the granddaughter of Edward L. Goodwin,both of whom were long time editors of The Oklahoma Eagle ,Oklahoma's longest-running Black-owned newspaper. [8] [7]
Goodwin graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa in 1980,and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Kansas. [4] She completed coursework for her master's degree at Columbia College in Chicago,Illinois. [4]
Goodwin was elected to serve as State Representative,Tulsa House District 73 in a 2015 special election. [9] Goodwin is Assistant Minority Floor Leader and the Chair of the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus,which is made of up seven members. [4] [10]
Goodwin has worked on issues related to public education,housing,health care,and police reform. In 2019,she highlighted possible instances of excessive use of force by Tulsa police officers, [11] following the 2016 killing of Terrence Crutcher [12] by Tulsa police officer,Betty Shelby [13] and the 2017 Tulsa police killing of Joshua Barre. [14] In 2020,Goodwin and other members of the Black Caucus again called for police reform, [15] when,on June 4,2020,Tulsa police stopped two African American boys walking down a street and detained them for jaywalking. Police body cam footage showed one officer sitting on one of the boys while holding the back of his neck and pressing his face to the ground. [15] [16]
In June 2020,when Donald Trump announced that he would be holding a campaign rally on Juneteenth a few blocks from the Tulsa 1921 race massacre,Goodwin held a press conference with other members of the Black Caucus to register their concerns about heightened racial tensions and increased health risks related to COVID-19. [3] Trump subsequently rescheduled the rally to June 20,2020. [17] Goodwin called Trump's choice to hold a rally "more provocative than productive." [18] [19]
In June 2021,on the 100-year anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre,Goodwin and other members of the Black Caucus called for reparations and other measures to ensure that massacre is never repeated. [20]

Terry O'Donnell is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party who has served as the Oklahoma House Representative for the 23rd district since January 8,2013. He first won elected office in the 2012 Oklahoma state elections. In January 2021,O'Donnell was promoted to be the speaker pro tempore of the Oklahoma House of Representatives,the second highest ranking Republican Party of Oklahoma member in the state house. On December 17,2021,O'Donnell was indicted in relation to a tag agency corruption scandal. He resigned as speaker pro tempore on February 2,2022 but later rejoined House Republican leadership in 2023 as majority whip,"a position that involves coordinating the teams of legislators that whip vote counts ahead of key bills."
Monroe Nichols IV is an American politician and former college football player who has served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from the 72nd district since 2016. He is the first African-American to represent the district. In July 2023,he announced he would not seek re-election to the Oklahoma House in order to run in the 2024 Tulsa mayoral election.

Established in 1922,it has been called the voice of Black Tulsa and is a successor to the Tulsa Star newspaper,which burned in the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. The Oklahoma Eagle publishes news about the Black community and reported on the 1921 Tulsa race massacre at a time when many white-owned newspapers in Tulsa refused to acknowledge it. TheOklahoma Eagle is also Oklahoma's longest-running Black-owned newspaper. The Oklahoma Eagle serves a print subscriber base throughout six Northeastern Oklahoma counties,statewide,in 36 U.S. states and territories,and abroad. It claims that it is the tenth oldest Black-owned newspaper in the United States still publishing today.
