John Moses Browning was an American firearms designer who developed many varieties of military and civilian firearms, cartridges, and gun mechanisms – many of which are still in use around the world. He made his first firearm at age 13 in his father's gun shop, and was awarded the first of his 128 firearm patents on October 7, 1879, at the age of 24. He is regarded as one of the most successful firearms designers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and pioneered the development of modern automatic and semi-automatic firearms.
The term "derringer" has come to refer to any small-sized handgun that is neither a revolver nor a semi/fully automatic pistol. It is not to be confused with mini-revolvers or pocket pistols, although some later derringers were manufactured with the pepperbox configuration. The modern derringer is often multi-barreled, and is generally the smallest usable handgun of any given caliber and barrel length due to the lack of a moving action, which takes up more space behind the barrel. It is frequently used by women because it is easily concealable in a purse or a stocking.

The original loading was a 29 or 30 gr bullet and 4 gr of black powder. The original .22 rimfire cartridge was renamed .22 Short with the introduction of the .22 Long in 1871.

In the past, the company made shotguns, derringers and revolvers based in Madison, North Carolina. Marlin owned the firearm manufacturer H&R Firearms. In 2007, Remington Arms, part of the Remington Outdoor Company, acquired Marlin Firearms. Remington produced Marlin-brand firearms at its Kentucky and New York manufacturing facilities. In 2020, Sturm, Ruger & Co. bought the Company from bankrupt Remington Outdoor Company.
H&R 1871, LLC is a manufacturer of firearms under the Harrington & Richardson and New England Firearms trademarks. H&R is a subsidiary of the Remington Outdoor Company. H&R ceased production February 27, 2015.
The Remington Model 572Fieldmaster is a manually-operated, slide-action rimfire repeating rifle manufactured by the Remington Arms Company. The 572 is noted for its similarity to the Remington 870 shotgun in design. The 572 is chambered for the .22 Short, .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle cartridges. Ammunition is supplied by a tubular magazine under the barrel which holds 15-22 rounds depending on the cartridge used. The longevity of manufacture speaks well of the popularity and durability of the action, and the overall reliability of this gun. It is popular with "plinkers" and collectors both, along with being a good small game, or "camp" rifle.
The Remington Model 504 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle that can chamber .22 LR, .17 HM2 or .17 HMR cartridges. The gun is a replacement of the now obsolete Remington Model 541, and was itself replaced by the Remington Model 547 in 2007. The Model 504T was a target variant built in 2006 that differed from the original 504 in using a laminated wood stock with a raised comb, a target style forearm and a heavier barrel.
The 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum or 5mm RFM is a bottlenecked rimfire cartridge introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1969. Remington chambered it in a pair of bolt-action rifles, the Model 591 and Model 592, but the round never became very popular, and the rifles were discontinued in 1974. About 52,000 rifles and 30,000 barrels for the T/C Contender pistol were sold during its brief production run. Remington discontinued the cartridge itself in 1982, leaving owners with no source of ammunition.
The Remington Model 5 is a rimfire bolt-action rifle introduced in 2006 by Remington Arms. The barrel and action are manufactured in Serbia by the Zastava Arms company, and the rifle is assembled in the United States with a laminated wood stock. It was advertised as being a "more economical, Serbian-made version of the discontinued Remington Model 504." The stock is made from a brown laminate and has a basic rubber recoil pad. The rifle also comes standard with an adjustable rear sight but can also accept a scope mount.
The Colt Lightning Carbine or Colt Lightning Rifle was a slide-action (pump-action) rifle manufactured by Colt from 1884 to 1904 and was originally chambered in .44-40 caliber. Colt eventually made the Lightning Rifle in three different frame sizes, to accommodate a wide range of cartridges, from .22 Short caliber and .38-40 to .50-95 Express. Its profile resembles the pump-action rimfire rifles made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Remington Arms. The Lightning saw use as a sporting arm in America and was adopted for use by the San Francisco Police Department, but was never as popular or as reliable as the various lever-action rifles of its day.

It is noted for using a polymer finish called ArmorLokt, which is designed to survive any type of weather condition and leaves no exterior surfaces to rust. This gives the 887 a "space age" look which is one of the gun's more defining features.
A gallery gun, Flobert gun, parlor gun or saloon gun is a type of firearm designed for recreational indoor target shooting. These guns were developed in 1845, when French inventor Louis-Nicolas Flobert created the first rimfire metallic cartridge by modifying a percussion cap to hold a small lead bullet. In the 19th century, gallery guns were typically pump action rifles chambered in .22 Short. Gallery guns are still manufactured, although by the late 20th century, they have been eclipsed by airguns for the purpose of indoor shooting.
The Remington Model 572 Fieldmaster is a slide action, manually-operated .22 caliber (rimfire) rifle manufactured by Remington Arms Company. First introduced to the commercial market in 1956, the 572 Fieldmaster rifle incorporates a tubular magazine capable of feeding .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridges, a cross-bolt safety, and an aluminum receiver grooved for scope mounts. The original Fieldmaster used a 22.75-inch barrel. The Model 572 uses many of the design features first introduced on the Remington Model 870 shotgun, and replaced the Model 121 Fieldmaster as the company's slide-action rimfire repeater.

Model No. 2 Old Model Smith & Wesson Revolver was Smith & Wesson's first .32 caliber revolver, intended to combine the small size and convenience of the Smith & Wesson Model 1 .22 rimfire with a larger caliber. Chambered in the .32 rimfire long caliber, its cylinder held 6 shots. It was manufactured 1861 - 1874, with a total production of 77,020.
