History

On May 21, 1998, on the same day as the fall of the New Order, several people initiated the establishment of a new political party. At that time, they were Hamdan Harahap, Lukman Syamra, Ahmad Yani Wahid, Syarifudin Harahap, Ponsterling Harahap, and Syaiful Bachri. At that time, the Republican Party was declared.

The figures behind the creation of the Party concept, AD-ART and Party Struggle Line were Ponsterling Harahap and Syaiful Bachri. They were both activist figures of the Islamic Students Association (HMI)

On May 25, the Republican Party was re-declared at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM). The declarants who attended formed a presidium to lead the Republican Party. On August 17, 1998, the first Republican Party Congress was held at the Cempaka Putih Hajj Dormitory. [1] In this first Congress, Syarifudin Harahap was elected as general chairman and Syaiful Bachri as secretary general. Syarifudin Harahap's leadership brought changes to the party. To face the 1999 election, Syarifudin Harahap met with TNI Commander General Wiranto to be his running mate as a vice presidential candidate in the 1999 general election, but this effort failed. Syarifudin then proposed to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, also as a vice presidential candidate.

The 1999 election took place, and the Republican Party failed to gain votes according to the election threshold. In several regions, especially North Sumatra, the Republican Party gained votes for the DPRD position. In accordance with the agreement, the position of general chairman held by Syarifudin Harahap was handed over to the declarator, namely Lukman Syamra. After that, the Republican Party went on hiatus. The Second Congress of the Republican Party was held in 2003. In the congress, it was decided that the Republican Party would not participate in the 2004 Election. Under the new leadership of Ahmad Yani Wahid, the administrators instead formed a new party, namely the Democratic Party (Indonesia). Furthermore, the founders declared themselves as SBY Volunteers under the name Team Krishna. This team itself was declared at the National Gathering of the SBY Volunteer Team.

Post-hibernation

In 2008, this party was re-registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights using the name of the Republican Party. On March 17, 2009, the leadership of the Republican Party passed into the hands of Hamdan Harahap because the previous chairman, Ahmad Yani Wahid, died. Not supporting him in the run-up to the 2009 Election, the party decided not to participate in the election. The 3rd Congress was held on August 21, 2011 at the Kaisar Hotel, Kalibata, South Jakarta. In this congress, Marwah Daud Ibrahim was elected as general chairman by acclamation.

The Republican Party registered itself as a participant in the 2014 Election and had to undergo administrative and factual verification. The Republic has management in 33 provinces and 421 districts/cities. Although declared to have passed administrative verification, the Republic did not pass factual verification by the General Elections Commission (KPU) and therefore did not meet the requirements. [2] Feeling that the KPU's decision was considered full of engineering and manipulation, the Republic Party filed a lawsuit to the High State Administrative Court to prove the manipulation, and was again rejected. Finally, the Republican Party brought the case to the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP). The KPU was found guilty of alleged manipulation during the factual verification process. Although the KPU was guilty, the DKPP's decision could not cancel the KPU Decree (SK), so the Republican Party could not participate in the 2014 election.

Two years later, on September 24-25, 2016, the Republican Party again consolidated its management. On that date, the next congress was held at the Sentral Jakarta Hotel, Jalan Pramuka. The results of the Congress determined Major General TNI (Ret.) Suharno Prawiro and Heru Bahtiar Arifin as the General Chairperson and Secretary General of the Republican Party for the period 2016 to 2021. On October 17, the Republican Party officially registered itself as a candidate for the 2019 general election (pemilu). [3]
