The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) is a left-wing communist political party in India. [1]

Contents

The party is based on Marxism, mixed with some Leninism. The party formed via the merger of Kerala-based Revolutionary Marxist Party with other parties with similar goals. Most of the parties that were merged were communist or Marxist. The parties that merged in 2016 were CPM Punjab, CPM Haryana, Chandigarh Marxist Party, Himachal Marxist Party, Chhattisgarh Marxist Party, Tamil Nadu Marxist Party, Andhra Marxist Party, West Bengal Marxist Party, and Delhi Marxist Party. The leaders of RMPI are Mangat Ram Pasla and K. K. Rema. [2] [3] [4] [5] The first All India Conference of Revolutionary Marxist Party Of India (RMPI) held at Chandigarh from November 23 to 26, 2017. The headquarters for the party are located in Jalandhar.

Politics in reorganised present-day Punjab is dominated by mainly three parties – Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). Since 1967, Chief Minister of Punjab has been predominantly from Jat Sikh community despite its 21 percent state population. Exceptions are Giani Zail Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab from 17 March 1972 to 30 April 1977 belonging to Ramgarhia community that has population of 6 percent and is a part of significant OBC community having population of 31.3 percent in the state and Charanjit Singh Channi who held the position for 111 days from 20 September 2021 to 16 March 2022 and was from Scheduled Caste(Dalit) who have 32 percent population in the state. Other prominent party is Bahujan Samaj Party especially in Doaba region founded by Kanshi Ram of Rupnagar district. In 1992 BSP won 9 seats Vidhan Sabha elections. Also BSP won 3 lok sabha seats from Punjab in 1996 general elections and only Garhshanker seat in 1997 Vidhan Sabha elections. Communist parties too have some influence in the Malwa area. In the 2014 general elections, the first-time contesting Aam Aadmi Party got 4 out of 13 seats in Punjab by winning 34 of the total 117 assembly segments, coming second in 7, third in 73 and fourth in the rest 3 segments. The support for the Aam Aadmi Party increased later in Punjab. The current Government was elected in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections and the AAP won 92 out of 117 Assembly seats with Bhagwant Mann as the Chief Minister. The Congress flows down to get only 18 seats.

All India Students' Association (AISA) is a left wing student organisation in India. It describes itself as "the voice of the radical students' movement" and is affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation. The association was previously affiliated to the IPF. The association was founded in Allahabad on 9 August 1990 with the merger of several left wing students organisations across India. AISA have organisational presence in the states and union territories of Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, etc. Nilasis Bose is the National President of AISA and Prasenjeet Kumar is its National General Secretary.

Socialism in India is a political movement founded early in the 20th century, as a part of the broader movement to gain Indian independence from colonial rule. The movement grew quickly in popularity as it espoused the causes of India's farmers and labourers against the zamindars, the princely class and the landed gentry. After independence and until the early 1990s, socialism shaped some economic and social policies of the Indian government, although they mostly followed the principles of dirigisme. After this period, India moved towards a more market-based economy. Though, India is officially declared a socialist state as per the constitution.

Mangat Ram Pasla is an Indian politician. He was a Central Committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), but was expelled from the party in December 2001. He had previously been the Secretary of the Punjab State Committee of the party. Pasla was one of the most prominent leaders of CPI(M) in Doaba belt. He was also the General Secretary of the Punjab unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions.

Punjab Democratic Alliance was formed by Punjab Ekta Party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira to contest 2019 Indian general election in Punjab on all 13 Lok Sabha seats. PDA was part of the nationwide Mahagathbandhan, and projected Mayawati as its prime ministerial face.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kanwaljeet Singh (activist)</span> Indian activist and author

Kanwaljeet Singh is an activist, author working in various social and political organisations. He is currently a member of the central committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, the state president of the Chandigarh Unit of All India Central Council of Trade Unions. He has worked as state president of the Punjab unit of Revolutionary Youth Association. He graduated as engineer in Mechatronics and Industrial Automation from Indo Swiss, Central Scientific Instruments Organisation Chandigarh. He also holds a Master of Art in Philosophy degree from Panjab University. He briefly worked as an Engineer in GE Healthcare and NCR Corporation. In 2005, he left his job to join a social movement for justice for Bant Singh. As an author he has published articles on op-ed pages of Punjabi Tribune and Nawan Zamana. In his early days into activism he was a theatre activist performing street and stage plays. He acted in a film The Fourth Direction as Jugal one of the main protagonist.

K. K. Rema is an activist-turned-politician associated with the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India. She is the widow of Revolutionary Marxist Party founder late T. P. Chandrasekharan. She has contested from Vadakara constituency in Kerala during the state assembly elections of 2021 and won with a margin of 7491 votes.

Shatarup Ghosh is an Indian politician from West Bengal belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM). He had formerly served as the All India Joint Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI), the students wing of CPIM and was member of its central secretariat. Then he became a member of the state committee secretariat of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), which is the youth wing of CPIM. He has been inducted into the West Bengal State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 23rd Party conference of state in March 2022 and currently remains a member of it.

Gurdeep Singh Deepa Heran Wala, commonly known as just Gurdeep Singh Deepa, was a revolutionary and the Jalandhar area commander and deputy chief of Khalistan Commando Force. By the time of his death, Gurdeep Singh Deepa was wanted in 217 killings and 37 robberies of vehicles.
