Ribeira de Calhau is a settlement in the eastern part of the island of Sao Vicente, Cape Verde. It takes its name from the river Ribeira do Calhau, and comprises the villages of Madeiral, Ribeira de Calhau and Calhau. Madeiral and Ribeira de Calhau are located in the river valley, Calhau is on the east coast. In 2010 its population was 1,177. The valley is surrounded by the mountains Viana, Madeiral, Pico do Vento and Monte Verde.

The Cape Verde Atmospheric Observatory "Humberto Duarte Fonseca" is situated 1 km north of Calhau. It is part of a German-UK initiative to undertake long-term ground- and ocean-based observations in the tropical Eastern North Atlantic Ocean region. [2]

It is situated in the northeastern part of the island, near the outflow of the river Ribeira Grande and its tributary Ribeira da Torre into the Atlantic Ocean. Neighborhoods include Tarrafal, Rua de Agua, Rua d'Horta and Penha de França.

Ribeira da Torre is a torrential stream in the northeastern part of the island of Santo Antão in Cape Verde. Its source is in the mountains north of the Cova crater, near the locality Rabo Curto. It flows to the north through the settlements Xoxo, Fajã Domingas Benta and Lugar de Guene. In the city Ribeira Grande it flows into the river Ribeira Grande, just upstream of its outflow into the Atlantic Ocean. Its upper valley is part of the protected area Cova-Paul-Ribeira da Torre Natural Park. There is small-scale agriculture in the valley, producing sugar cane, coffee, yam, banana, papaya and mango.

Ribeira dos Calhaus is a settlement in the western part of the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde. It is part of the municipality of Tarrafal de São Nicolau. It is situated in a valley northwest of Monte Gordo, 3 km southeast of Praia Branca and 7 km north of Tarrafal de São Nicolau.

The island of São Vicente in Cape Verde in the westcentral portion of the Barlavento Islands is home to several teams and clubs. The major professional clubs are CS Mindelense, FC Derby, Académica do Mindelo, Batuque FC and Amarante. The island also has a league named the São Vicente Island League, it is the oldest in Cape Verde, first it only had football, later it had basketball, volleyball, athletics and now futsal.
