Rich Negrin is an American lawyer who formerly served as Pennsylvania Secretary of Environmental Protection from June to December 2023. [1]
The son of Cuban immigrants,Negrin was 13 when he witnessed the assassination of his father,the director of a refugee services center in New Jersey,by anti-Castro activists. [2] [3] After graduating from Wagner College and Rutgers Law School,he worked as a prosecutor in the Philadelphia District Attorney's office from 1995 to 2000. [4]
Under Mayor Michael Nutter,Negrin was appointed executive director of the Philadelphia Board of Revision of Taxes in 2009 and then the city's managing director and deputy mayor in 2010. [4] He unsuccessfully ran for district attorney in 2017,receiving endorsements from The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Fraternal Order of Police. [5] [6] He received 14.2% of the vote in the Democratic primary,placing third behind Larry Krasner and Joe Khan.
In January 2023,Negrin was nominated as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection by Governor Josh Shapiro. [4] He was confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate on June 27,becoming the first Latino to lead the agency. [1] He announced resignation,effective December 9,on October 25,2023 for medical reasons. [7]

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the agency in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania responsible for protecting and preserving the land,air,water,and public health through enforcement of the state's environmental laws. It was created by Act 18 of 1995,which split the Department of Environmental Resources into the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Its current secretary is Jess Shirley.
Joshua David Shapiro is an American politician and attorney who has served as the 48th governor of Pennsylvania since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the 50th Pennsylvania attorney general from 2017 to 2023 and as a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017.

He campaigned on a platform to reform elements of the criminal justice system,including reduced incarceration.
William Miller McSwain is an American attorney and a former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania,a position he held from April 6,2018 to January 22,2021. He was nominated to the post by President Donald Trump. After leaving his position as U.S. Attorney,McSwain entered private practice at Duane Morris LLP. He then ran,unsuccessfully,for the Republican nomination for Governor of Pennsylvania in 2022 after which he again returned to private practice.
The 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of Pennsylvania and lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. State Attorney General Josh Shapiro defeated State Senator Doug Mastriano by 14.8 percentage points to succeed term-limited incumbent governor Tom Wolf (D). Primaries were held on May 17,2022. Shapiro won the Democratic nomination after running unopposed and Mastriano won the Republican nomination with 44% of the vote. Mastriano's nomination drew attention due to his far-right political views.

With this victory,earning 3,461,472 votes and outperforming Joe Biden in the concurrent presidential election,Shapiro became the highest votegetter in Pennsylvania history.
