William Richard Charette was a United States Navy master chief hospital corpsman who received the nation's highest military decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor. He was awarded the medal for heroic actions "above and beyond the call of duty" on March 27, 1953, while assigned to a Marine Corps rifle company during the Korean War. He retired from the Navy after 26 years of service.

Iván Castro is a former United States Army officer who continued serving on active duty in the Special Forces despite losing his eyesight. Meyer is the second-youngest living Medal of Honor recipient, the third living recipient for either the Iraq War or the War in Afghanistan, and the first living United States Marine in 38 years to be so honored.
Colonel James Loftus Fowler was an American Marine who was the founder of the Marine Corps Marathon, an annual race since 1976 in Washington, D.C. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The race, which now draws tens of thousands of athletes, was intended to promote goodwill for the military after the Vietnam War and serve as a United States Marine Corps recruiting tool. With no qualifying standards or monetary prizes, it gives participants a chance to qualify for the Boston Marathon, earning it the nickname "The People's Marathon."

John Peck is an American Marine sergeant who lost both his legs and arms during a mission in Afghanistan in 2010. He lost both legs and one arm when an Improvised explosive device he stepped on exploded; while recovering in the hospital, an infection forced amputation of his remaining arm. He successfully underwent a ground-breaking bilateral arm transplant in August 2016.
