Robert Tvorogal (born 5 October 1994) [1] is a Lithuanian artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 European Games champion on the horizontal bar. He became the first Lithuanian to win a gold medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships when he won the horizontal bar title at the 2020 European Championships. He is also the 2022 European horizontal bar silver medalist and the 2020 European parallel bars bronze medalist. He represented Lithuania at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics.
Tvorogal was born on 5 October 1994 in Vilnius. He is ethnic Polish and graduated from the Szymon Konarski Polish Secondary School. [2] [3] He began gymnastics when he was five years old. [4]
Tvorogal competed at the 2010 Junior European Championships and finished eighth in the horizontal bar final. [5] He represented Lithuania at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. [6] He qualified for the horizontal bar final where he finished seventh. [7] He won the silver medal on the horizontal bar at the 2011 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival behind Switzerland's Christian Baumann. [8] He finished fourth in the all-around at the 2012 Junior European Championships by only 0.150 behind bronze medalist Eddy Yusof. [9]
Tvorogal competed at his first World Championships in 2013 but did not advance to any finals. [10] He also did not advance to any finals at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning. [11]
Tvorogal finished 58th in the all-around during the qualification round of the 2015 World Championships. [12] Although he did not advance to any finals, he qualified for a spot at the 2016 Olympic Test Event. [13] At the Test Event, he finished 33rd in the all-around and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games. [14] [15] In May 2016, he competed at the Varna World Challenge Cup and won the silver medal on horizontal bar behind Andrey Likhavitski. [16] At the 2016 Olympic Games, he finished 42nd in the all-around during the qualification round. [17]
Tvorogal finished 20th in the all-around final at the 2017 European Championships. [18] He then represented Lithuania at the 2017 Summer Universiade and qualified for the all-around final where he finished tenth. [19] At the 2017 World Championships in Montreal, he finished 17th in the all-around final. [20]
Tvorogal competed at the 2018 Melbourne World Cup and won the bronze medal on the floor exercise. [21] He then won the silver medal on the horizontal bar at the 2018 Osijek World Challenge Cup behind Croatia's Tin Srbić. [22]
Tvorogal competed at the 2019 European Championships and finished 16th in the all-around final. [23] He then won the gold medal on the parallel bars at the 2019 Osijek World Challenge Cup. [24] He represented Lithuania at the 2019 European Games in Minsk. In the all-around final, he finished seventh, and he finished fifth in the parallel bars final. He won the gold medal in the horizontal bar final with a score of 14.400. [25] At the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, he finished 29th in the all-around during the qualification round and qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games. [26] [27] This result also made him the second reserve for the all-around final. However, after Kim Han-sol and Manrique Larduet both withdrew from the final, Tvorogal was added to the start list and finished 24th. [28] [29]
Tvorogal competed at the 2020 European Championships in Mersin. The Lithuanian team finished eighth in the qualification round, making them the second reserve for the final. In the parallel bars final, he scored 14.500 and won the bronze medal behind Ferhat Arıcan and Petro Pakhniuk. Then in the horizontal bar final, he won the gold medal with a score of 14.800. He became the first Lithuanian gymnast to win a gold medal at the European Championships. [30] [31]
At the 2021 European Championships, Tvorogal finished sixth in the all-around final. [32] He won the bronze medal on the parallel bars at the 2021 Varna World Challenge Cup. [33] He then won the gold medal on the parallel bars and the bronze medal on the horizontal bar at the Cairo World Challenge Cup. [34] He the represented Lithuania at the postponed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the qualification round, he fell off the horizontal bar. He did not qualify for any finals, finishing 46th in the all-around. [35] After the Olympics, he competed at the Mersin World Challenge Cup where he won the bronze medal on the horizontal bar. [36] He then competed at the 2021 World Championships and finished fifteenth in the all-around final. [37]
Tvorogal won the silver medal on the horizontal bar behind Alexander Myakinin at 2022 Doha World Cup. [38] He then represented Lithuania at the 2022 European Championships in Munich. In the horizontal bar final, he scored 14.000 and won the silver medal behind Marios Georgiou. [39] At the 2022 Mersin World Challenge Cup, he won the gold medal on the horizontal bar and the silver medal on the parallel bars. [40] He finished eleventh on the horizontal bar at the 2022 World Championships, making him the third reserve for the event final. [41]
Tvorogal began the 2023 season with an all-around win at the Luxembourg Open. [42] He finished sixth in the horizontal bar final at the 2023 European Championships. [43] He finished 67th in the all-around during the qualification round at the 2023 World Championships, missing out on an Olympic berth. [44] [45]
Tvorogal registered for the 2024 FIG World Cup series to earn points for Olympic qualification. He placed fifth on the horizontal bar at the first event in Cairo. [46] He improved his performance to win a bronze medal at the second event in Cottbus. [47] He then won the gold medal at the World Cup in Baku. [48] At the final event in Doha, he won a silver medal behind Tang Chia-hung. [49] With these results, he earned enough points for qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [50]
At the 2024 European Championships, Tvorogal won a silver medal on the horizontal bar behind Illia Kovtun. [51]
Giulia Steingruber is a Swiss retired artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World bronze medalist on vault. Additionally, she is the 2015 European all-around champion, a four-time European vault champion and the 2016 European floor exercise champion.
Oleg Yuriyovych Verniaiev is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic parallel bars champion and individual all-around silver medalist. Verniaiev is also the 2014 World parallel bars champion, the 2015 European individual all-around champion and the 2017 European individual all-around champion.
Angelina Romanovna Melnikova is a Russian artistic gymnast. With eleven Olympic and World medals, she is the joint third-most decorated Russian gymnast of all time. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she led the Russian Olympic Committee to gold in the team competition. She previously represented Russia at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the team competition. She was also a member of the gold medal-winning Russian teams at the 2016 and 2018 European Championships, and the silver medal-winning Russian teams at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships.
Nile Michael Wilson is a former British artistic gymnast. He won an Olympic bronze medal in the men's horizontal bar at the 2016 Summer Olympics; he was a world medallist as a member of the silver-medal winning British team at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the first world men's team medal in British gymnastics history. A five-time Commonwealth Games champion, he won the all-around title in 2018, and is a former European horizontal bar champion, the first Briton to win the title. In January 2021, Wilson announced his retirement from competitive gymnastics due to injuries and mental health concerns. In March 2023, he won the fifteenth series of Dancing on Ice with dance partner Olivia Smart.
Nikita Vladimirovich Nagornyy is a Russian artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian, representing Russia in 2016 and ROC in 2020. He was part of the teams who won gold at the 2020 Olympic Games and 2019 World Championships and silver at the 2016 Olympic Games and 2018 World Championships.
Marina Nekrasova is a Russian-born artistic gymnast who has represented Azerbaijan since 2013. She is the 2019 Summer Universiade vault champion. At the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, she won gold in the team event and silver medals on the vault and balance beam. She is also a three-time World Challenge Cup vault champion. She competed at the 2020 Olympic Games, making her the first woman artistic gymnast to represent Azerbaijan at the Olympic Games.
Manrique Larduet Bicet is a Cuban artistic gymnast. At the 2015 World Championships, he won the silver medal in the all-around- becoming Cuba's first World all-around medalist. He is also the 2015 World horizontal bar bronze medalist, and he represented Cuba at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is the 2015 Pan American Games vault champion and all-around silver medalist. He is the 2018 Pan American all-around champion and a two-time Pan American champion on the parallel bars At the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival he won medals in every event, including the all-around gold. He withdrew from the 2020 Summer Olympics due to a dispute with the Cuban Gymnastics Federation, and he now lives and trains in Italy.
Andrei Vasile Muntean is a Romanian artistic gymnast. He represented Romania at the 2016 Summer Olympics and placed sixth on the parallel bars. He is the 2017 World University Games vault bronze medalist. He has competed at the World Championships eight times, and he will represent Romania at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Lee Chih-kai(simplified Chinese: 李智凯; traditional Chinese: 李智凱; Hanyu Pinyin: Lǐ Zhìkǎi; Tongyong Pinyin: Lǐ Jhìhkǎi; Wade–Giles: Li3 Chih4k'ai3; born 3 April 1996) is a Taiwanese artistic gymnast. He is the 2020 Olympic silver medalist in the pommel horse, and he was the first gymnast representing Chinese Taipei to win an Olympic medal. He is the 2019 World silver medalist and the 2018 World bronze medalist on the pommel horse. He is the 2018 Asian Games pommel horse champion and the 2019 Asian all-around champion. He is a three-time (2017, 2019 and 2021) Summer Universiade pommel horse champion.
Marios Georgiou is a Cypriot artistic gymnast. He is the 2024 European all-around champion, and the 2022 European horizontal bar champion and the first gymnast from Cyprus to win a European title, and a major all-around title. He is the 2019 European Championships all-around bronze medalist which made him the first gymnast from Cyprus to win a European medal. He is the 2019 European Games parallel bars silver medalist. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medals in the floor exercise and parallel bars and the bronze medal in the all-around, and he won four bronze medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He is the 2018 Mediterranean Games all-around and horizontal bar champion and the 2022 Mediterranean Games horizontal bar champion. He competed at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games.
Barbora Mokošová is a Slovak artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 European bronze medalist on the uneven bars and the first gymnast representing Slovakia to receive a medal at the European Championships. She represented Slovakia at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is also a two-time World Challenge Cup champion on the uneven bars.
Tin Srbić is a Croatian artistic gymnast. He is the 2017 World champion on the horizontal bar and the first Croatian to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He is also the 2020 Olympic, 2019 World, and two-time European silver medalist on the horizontal bar. He is the second Croatian gymnast to win an Olympic medal, after Filip Ude. He has won nine gold medals in the FIG World Cup series.
Ahmet Önder is a Turkish artistic gymnast. He represented Turkey at the 2020 Olympic Games. He is the 2019 World silver medalist on the parallel bars.
Illia Yuriiovych Kovtun is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. He is the 2023 World all-around silver medalist and 2021 World all-around bronze medalist. At the European Championships he is the 2023 European champion on parallel bars as well as a one-time silver medalist and a three-time bronze medalist. Additionally he is a two-time junior world championships medalist.
Audrys Nin Reyes is a Dominican artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 and 2023 Pan American Games vault champion. He was the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at the Pan American Games. He was also the first Dominican gymnast to win a gold medal at an FIG World Cup event when he won the vault title at the 2017 Osijek World Challenge Cup. He is the 2017 Pan American vault and horizontal bar champion and the 2017 Universiade vault champion. He is also the 2018 and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games vault champion. He has qualified to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the first male gymnast from his country to do so.
Krisztofer Mészáros is a Hungarian artistic gymnast. At the 2022 European Championships, he won the silver medal on floor exercise and was Hungary's first European silver medalist on floor exercise. He won a bronze medal with the Hungarian team at the 2020 European Championships. He will represent Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Lihie Raz is an American-born Israeli Olympic artistic gymnast. She won the bronze medal on the floor exercise at the 2020 European Championships, which was Israel's first medal at the European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also the 2019 and 2021 Israeli all-around champion. She represented Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished 59th in the all-around during qualifications, but did not advance to any finals. Raz will represent Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in Women's individual all-around on August 8 and, if she advances to the final, August 9, 2024.
Megan "Meg" Ryan is an Irish artistic gymnast who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. She was the first Irish female gymnast to win a medal on the FIG World Cup series.
Lee Jun-ho is a South Korean male artistic gymnast who represented South Korea at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the team competition at the 2018 Asian Games. He is a three-time Asian Championships bronze medalist.
