Rocky Flintoff (born 7 April 2008) is an English cricketer who plays for Lancashire County Cricket Club. A right-handed batsman and right arm fast-medium bowler,he is the youngest player to appear for Lancashire and the youngest to score a century for the England Under-19s team.
The son of Andrew Flintoff and Rachael Wools Flintoff,he has three siblings,Holly,Corey and Preston. [1] [2] He attended Manchester Grammar School and joined Lancashire County Cricket Club at a young age. His brother Corey also plays for the Lancashire academy. [3]
Flintoff began playing cricket at Alderley Edge Cricket Club,Cheshire,and played for St Annes Cricket Club in 2020. [4] He played for North at the Bunbury Festival in 2023 and made his debut in the August of that summer for Southport and Birkdale in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition,scoring 76 from 98 balls on debut. [5] He made his debut for Lancashire second-XI in April 2024,two days after his sixteenth birthday. [6]
He made an unbeaten half-century in April 2024 for Lancashire second-XI against Durham second-XI,from 78 balls. [7] [8] [9] The following week,he scored his first century for Lancs second-XI,making 116 from 165 balls against Warwickshire second-XI. [10] His innings included 11 fours and three sixes and included a partnership of 39 with his older brother Corey. [11] [12] At the age of 16 years and 16 days old,he become the third youngest player to score a century in the 2nd XI Championship,and the youngest ever for Lancashire,beating the previous record of 16 years and 266 days held since 1994 by his father Andrew Flintoff. In June 2024,he signed a professional contract with Lancashire. [16] [17] [18] [19]
He made his List A debut for Lancashire against Kent in the One-Day Cup on 28 July 2024,becoming their youngest-ever player at the age of 16 years and 113 days. [20] [21]
Flintoff scored his maiden List A half-century when he hit 88 against Middlesex on 8 August 2024. [22] [23]
Flintoff made his first-class debut at the Oval on 22 August 2024,for Lancashire against Surrey in the County Championship. Aged 16 years and 137 days,he became the youngest player to represent county at this level,and scored 32 in his first innings. [24] [25] [26] [27]
In June 2024,he was called up to the England under-19 cricket team. [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] [34] Flintoff scored a match-winning 106 as the team beat a Young Lions Invitational XI in a warm-up match for their series against Sri Lanka. [35] [36] [37] [38] On 18 July 2024,Flintoff made a century in the second four-day match against Sri Lanka at the College Ground,Cheltenham,scoring 106 off 181 balls including eight fours and two sixes. [39] [40] Aged 16 years and 102 days,he became the youngest player to score a century for England U19s, [41] beating the record set by Ian Bell who achieved the feat at 16 years and 313 days against New Zealand in February 1999. In December 2024,he played for the England Lions against South Africa A on their tour of South Africa. [45] He was subsequently included in the Lions squad to tour Australia in January 2025. [46] [47]
Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff,is an English television and radio presenter and former international cricketer. Flintoff played all forms of the game and was one of the sport's leading all-rounders,a fast bowler,middle-order batsman and slip fielder. He was consistently rated by the ICC as being among the top international all-rounders in both ODI and Test cricket.
Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer who represented Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2015. A former captain in all formats. He was born in Matale,Central Province. In first-class cricket,he played for Nondescripts Cricket Club from 1997–98 to 2013–14 and for Surrey County Cricket Club from 2015 to 2017. Mohamed Farveez Maharoof,or Farveez Maharoof,is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer,who played Tests and ODIs. He first made his impression in the 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in which he captained the Sri Lankan team. He enjoyed a prolific school career for Wesley College,with a highest score of 243 and best bowling figures of 8 for 20. An all-rounder,he made his Test debut in 2004. He was part of the Sri Lankan team which finished as runners-up at the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
Ian Ronald Bell is an English former cricketer who played international cricket in all formats for the England cricket team and county cricket for Warwickshire County Cricket Club. A right-handed higher/middle order batsman,described in The Times as an "exquisite rapier," with a strong cover drive,Bell was also an occasional right-arm medium pace bowler and a slip fielder. He was also noted for his sharp reflexes and often fielded in close catching positions. He scored twenty-two Test centuries and four One Day International (ODI) 100s.
Gary Keedy is a retired English cricketer. A slow-left arm spin bowler,he played one match for Yorkshire in 1994,having graduated from their cricket academy,before moving to Lancashire in 1995. He played for the club until 2012 taking over 500 first-class wickets. Although he had played youth internationals,he never played for the senior England team,although he was named in the squad a few times. In 2011 he was part of the Lancashire squad that won the County Championship for the first time since 1950. Keedy subsequently played one season for Surrey and two for Nottinghamshire before retiring as a professional cricketer in 2015. After studying physiotherapy at the University of Salford,he is currently Nottinghamshire's spin bowling coach and assistant physiotherapist.
The England Under-19 cricket team have been playing official Under-19 Test matches since 1974. Prior to 1991/92 they were known as England Young Cricketers.
Steven John Mullaney is an English retired cricketer best known for his time playing for,and captaining,Nottinghamshire. During his 18 year career he also played for Lancashire and Trent Rockets along with representing England at the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
