Jacob Duffy (born 2 August 1994) is a New Zealand cricketer who plays for Otago. Duffy made his senior debut in an HRV Cup match against Northern Districts in January 2012. He made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in December 2020. [1]
Duffy was born at Lumsden in the Southland Region and was educated at Southland Boys' High School in Invercargill. [2] [3]
Duffy was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season for Otago,with 29 dismissals in eight matches. [4] In June 2018,he was awarded a contract with Otago for the 2018–19 season. [5] He was the leading wicket-taker for Otago in the 2018–19 Ford Trophy,with 25 dismissals in eleven matches. [6] He was the joint-leading wicket-taker for Otago in the 2018–19 Super Smash,with thirteen dismissals in nine matches. [7]
In June 2020,Duffy was offered a contract by Otago ahead of the 2020–21 domestic cricket season. [8] [9]
In November 2020,Duffy was named in the New Zealand A cricket team for practice matches against the touring West Indies team. [10] [11] The following month,he was named in New Zealand's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Pakistan. [12] He made his T20I debut for New Zealand on 18 December 2020,against Pakistan. [13] He took 4 wickets for 33 from his four overs,and was named the player of the match. [14]
In April 2021,Duffy was named in New Zealand's Test squad for their series against England, [15] and for the final of the 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship. [16] In May 2022,Duffy was again named in New Zealand's Test squad for their tour of England. [17]
On 2 June 2022,Duffy signed a short-term deal to play as an overseas player for Kent County Cricket Club in two County Championship matches. [18] He took eight wickets,with a five-wicket haul which included three wickets in an over,in his debut for the county. [19]
In June 2022,Duffy was named in New Zealand's One Day International (ODI) squad for their tour of Ireland. [20] He made his ODI debut on 12 July 2022,for New Zealand against Ireland. [21]
Todd Duncan Astle is a former New Zealand cricketer who played for the New Zealand national cricket team. Astle began his cricket career as an opening batsman,representing New Zealand in the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup,but over time playing first-class cricket for Canterbury,he morphed into a bowling all-rounder. He made his Test cricket debut for New Zealand in 2012 in Sri Lanka,but did not play another international match until 2015. He represented New Zealand in all three forms of the game,but was unable to keep a consistent place in the team in any format because of regular injury problems and competition with other spin bowlers. In January 2020,Astle retired from first-class cricket to focus on limited-overs cricket. In February 2023 he retired from all forms of professional cricket.

He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs. Southee was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. Southee currently has the highest (international) test batting strike rate among the batsmen with a minimum of 2000 test runs. His (batting) career strike rate is 83.12. He was also a part of the New Zealand squad to finish as runners-up at the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
