Rohit Suresh Saraf (born 8 December 1996) is an Indian actor who primarily works in Hindi films and series. He began his career on television and made his film debut with a supporting role in Dear Zindagi (2016). He went on to feature in the Norwegian film What Will People Say (2017), the comedy-drama Hichki (2018), the biopic The Sky Is Pink (2019), the dark comedy Ludo (2020), and the thriller Vikram Vedha (2022).

Since 2020, Saraf has starred in the Netflix romantic comedy series Mismatched and in 2024, he had his first lead film role in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk Rebound .

Early life

Rohit Saraf was born on 8 December 1996 in Nepal into an Indian family. [1] [2] He moved back with his family to Delhi. He was then raised in Delhi. At an young age of 15, he moved alone to Mumbai to pursue his late father's dream to make him a actor. [2]

His father, Suresh Saraf, passed away when Rohit was 12 years old. He only completed his Grade 10 and then concentrated further on his passion of becoming a actor. [3] [4]

Saraf began his career with several television shows, including the Channel V's teen drama Best Friends Forever? . He made his film debut as the younger brother of Alia Bhatt's character in the coming-of-age film Dear Zindagi (2016). [5] Saraf then played the cousin of the lead character in the Norwegian drama What Will People Say , which was selected as the Norwegian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. In 2018, Saraf appeared in Yash Raj Films' comedy-drama Hichki , starring Rani Mukerji. [8] He then starred alongside Priyanka Chopra and Zaira Wasim in the biographical drama The Sky Is Pink (2019). [3] Reviewing the film for NDTV, Saibal Chatterjee wrote that Saraf "gives a solid account of himself" and Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost opined that he "delivers a rock solid performance". In 2020, Saraf appeared alongside an ensemble cast in Anurag Basu's black comedy Ludo . [11] Sreeparna Sengupta of The Times of India commended him for standing out despite minimal dialogues. [12] In the same year, he began starring alongside Prajakta Koli in the Netflix romantic drama series Mismatched . [13] Raja Sen of Mint Lounge credited him for creating a "refreshingly non-alpha hero", and Poulomi Das of Firstpost labelled him "sincere". [14] [15]

Saraf played a leading role opposite Anandhi in the Tamil romantic drama Kamali From Nadukkaveri (2021), [16] and appeared in Vikram Vedha (2022) as the younger brother of Hrithik Roshan's character. [17] In 2024, Saraf had his first Hindi film lead role in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk Rebound . [18] Mayur Sanap of Rediff.com panned the film but took note of Saraf's "charming enough screen presence". [19]

Saraf will next feature in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Thug Life and in Dharma Productions' romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. [20] [21]

Hichki is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language comedy drama film co-written and directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma under the former's banner of Yash Raj Films. Based on American motivational speaker Brad Cohen's autobiography Front of the Class, it stars Rani Mukerji in her comeback appearance as Naina Mathur, an aspiring teacher who was rejected by many schools because of her Tourette syndrome until she is accepted at the St. Notker's School, her alma mater. Starring Prajakta Koli, Rohit Saraf, Rannvijay Singha and Vidya Malvade in prominent roles, the series is about Rishi, a die-hard romantic who believes in traditional ways of dating, who falls for Dimple, a gamer, and eventually wants to marry her.

<i>Vikram Vedha</i> (2022 film) 2022 film directed by Pushkar–Gayathri

Vikram Vedha is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language neo-noir action thriller film directed and co-written by Pushkar–Gayathri and jointly produced by YNOT Studios, Friday Filmworks, Reliance Entertainment, T-Series Films and Jio Studios. A remake of the director duo's 2017 Tamil film of the same name, it is inspired by the Indian folktale Vetala Panchavimshati and stars Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan as the titular anti-heroes. Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Yogita Bihani play supporting roles. In the film, a police officer sets out to track down and kill a gangster. After voluntarily surrendering himself, the gangster tells the police officer three stories which change his perceptions of good and evil.

Ishq Vishk Rebound is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama film directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Jaya Taurani under Tips Films. A spiritual sequel to the 2003 film Ishq Vishk, it stars Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal.
