Rohit Srivastava is a professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioegineering at IIT Bombay specialising in medical diagnostic devices, nanoengineered materials and photothermal cancer therapy. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Medical Sciences in the year 2021 for his contributions to the development of affordable medical devices. [1]

Rohit Srivastava heads the NanoBios Lab in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering in IIT Bombay. [2] The lab has developed and commercialised several products including UChek which is a mobile based portable urine analysis system, a low cost reader for analyzing urine dip sticks, and Suchek which is an indigenous, low-cost glucometer. [3] He along with his collaborators has as many as 20 Indian and one US patents to their credit. [4]

Education

Rohit Srivastava received his PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, USA under the supervision of Michael J. McShane in 2005, MS in engineering from the same university and BE degree in Electronics Engineering from Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur in 1999. [4] He completed his primary and secondary education from Durgapur where his father was employed in Alloy Steel Plant.

Valipe Ramgopal Rao was the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was a P.K.Kelkar Chair Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay before joining IIT Delhi as the Director. Ramgopal Rao has more than 480 publications in various journals, and over 50 patents in the areas of Electron devices and Nanoelectronics. Ramgopal Rao was the first elected chairman for the Indian Section of the American Nano Society. He is also the recipient of multiple prizes including the Swarnajayanti Fellowship, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Infosys Prize, Techno-Visionary award from the Indian Semiconductor Association in 2020, the IBM faculty award in 2007 and the IEEE EDS Education award in 2020 besides many others. He is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc), National Academy of Sciences (NASI) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Bikramjit Basu is currently a full professor at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, specializing in Engineering Ceramics and Biomaterials Science. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology, the highest science award in India, for the year 2013 in engineering science category. The prize was awarded for his "outstanding contributions encompassing theory and experiments to significantly expand our understanding of the in vitro cell functionality modulation on engineered bio-materials using electric field simulation approach". With a team of clinicians and entrepreneurs, he is actively involved in translating his research into implantable biomedical devices for orthopedic and dental restorative applications and currently leading a center of Excellence at IISc, Bangalore. In 2015, he received the National Bioscience award. Besides, Prof. Basu is also involved in development of Zirconum diboride based UHTCs.

Roop Mallik is an Indian biophysicist who works on nanoscale molecular motor proteins that transport material such as viruses, mitochondria, endosomes etc. inside living cells. The motors, such as kinesin and dynein generate forces of pico-newton order to carry our various cellular processes namely cell division, vesicular transport, endocytosis, molecular tethering etc. His lab is working to understand how motor proteins help in degradation and clearance of pathogens, and also how these motors work inside the liver to maintain systemic lipid homeostasis in the animal. Mallik is currently a professor at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Kaushal Kumar Verma is an Indian mathematician who specializes in complex analysis. He earned a B.Tech degree in engineering physics,from IIT Bombay in 1992. He then obtained a PhD. in mathematics from Indiana University, Bloomington, and also worked at Syracuse University for an year, followed by working at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, for 3 years. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 2014. He is a professor in the department of mathematics and dean of mathematical and physical sciences at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Rajesh Sudhir Gokhale is currently the Secretary for Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. He joined National Institute of immunology after conducting his postdoctoral training at Stanford University, He was the director of Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology from 2009 to 2016. Gokhale is known for his studies on the metabolic diversity of pathogens. He is credited with the discovery of a family of Long-chain Fatty acyl-AMP ligases (FAAL) and his studies assisted in the elucidation of biochemical crosstalk between fatty acid synthases and polyketide synthases in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He holds US and Indian patents for his invention of Method to Modulate Pigmentation Process in the Melanocytes of Skin. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Science, he is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (2007) and the Indian National Science Academy (2014). Yendluri Shanthi Pavan is an Indian electrical engineer and a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is known for his studies on mixed signal VLSI circuits and is an elected fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is also a fellow of IEEE. Deepak Gaur was an Indian molecular biologist, and a professor at the School of Biotechnology of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Known for his studies on Plasmodium falciparum, Gaur is a recipient of the N-Bios Prize. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to medical sciences in 2017.

Anurag Agrawal is an Indian pulmonologist, medical researcher and the director of the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, a CSIR institution. Known for his studies on lung diseases, Agrawal is a senior fellow of the DBT-Wellcome Trust. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Medical Sciences in 2014. Amit Kumar is Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He received his B.Tech. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1997, and Ph.D. from Cornell University in 2002. He worked as Member of Technical Staff at Bell Labs, Murray Hill, New Jersey, U.S. during 2002–2003. He joined IIT Delhi as faculty member in 2003. He works in the area of combinatorial optimization, approximation algorithms and online algorithms. He is working extensively on problems arising in scheduling theory, clustering, and graph theoretic algorithmic problems.

Arun Kumar Shukla is an Indian structural biologist and the Joy-Gill Chair professor at the department of biological sciences and bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Known for his studies on G protein-coupled receptor, Shukla is a Wellcome Trust-DBT Intermediate Fellow and a recipient of the SwarnaJayanti Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences, in 2017/18. He received the 2021 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Biological Science.

Amit Singh is an Indian microbiologist and an associate professor at the department of microbiology and cell biology of the Indian Institute of Science. A Wellcome-DBT Senior Fellow, Singh is known for his studies on the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development for 2017/18. He was awarded with the prestigious CSIR- Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award on 2021 for his phenomenal contributions in bio-scientific research. He received the 2021 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Biological Science.

Bushra Ateeq is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE), IIT Kanpur specializing in cancer biology and molecular oncology. She was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Medical Sciences in the year 2020. Her research interest involves exploration of the genetic and epigenetic changes that initiate cancer and its progression. She is also focusing on understanding the molecular events that drive cancer and resistance towards chemotherapeutic drugs.

Ritesh Agarwal is a Professor in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, (PGIMER) Chandigarh, having research interests in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Medical Sciences in the year 2020 for his contributions in the field of ABPA.

Subimal Ghosh is Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Convener of the Interdisciplinary Program in Climate Studies at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay with research interests in hydrology and hydro-climatology. He obtained PhD degree in 2007 from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on a thesis titled "Hydrologic Impacts of Climate Change: Uncertainty Modelling", and ME degree in 2004 from the same institute.
