The Diocese of Butuan (Lat: Dioecesis Butuanensis) is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the Philippines.
The diocese was erected in 1967, through Pope Paul VI, separating from the Diocese of Surigao. The territory of the Diocese of Butuan contained the Province of Agusan del Sur and Agusan del Norte, and Carmelo Dominador Morelos was its first bishop. The diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro.
On October 15, 2024, the new Diocese of Prosperidad was carved out of the Diocese of Butuan. The new diocese comprises the province of Agusan Del Sur. Pope Francis appointed Ruben C. Labajo, Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu, as the first ordinary of the new diocese. [2]
Vert, in between two pomegranates proper seeded Gules, supported, sculpted and leafed in two Or a bend wavy sinister Azure charged with a lily flower Argent. Vert symbolized Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. Pomegranates proper seeded inside the color Vert symbolized fertility. Color Azure is Agusan River. While Lily flower argent symbolized purity of St. Joseph the Patron of Butuan, and titular of the Diocese of Butuan.

Agusan del Norte, officially the Province of Agusan del Norte, is a province in the Caraga region of the Philippines. Its de jure capital is the city of Cabadbaran with several government offices located in the highly-urbanized city of Butuan, which is the largest city and its de facto capital as well as the regional center of Caraga Region. It is bordered on the northwest by Butuan Bay; northeast by Surigao del Norte; mid-east by Surigao del Sur; southeast by Agusan del Sur, and southwest by Misamis Oriental.
Agusan del Sur, officially the Province of Agusan del Sur, is a province in Caraga region, Mindanao, Philippines. Its capital is the municipality of Prosperidad. Surigao del Norte, officially the Province of Surigao del Norte, is a province in the Philippines located in the Caraga region of Mindanao. The province was formerly under the jurisdiction of Region 10 until 1995. Its capital is Surigao City, the most populous in the province. The province comprises two major islands—Siargao and Bucas Grande—in the Philippine Sea, plus a small area at the northeastern tip of mainland Mindanao and other surrounding minor islands and islets.
