Rudolf Bibl (4 May 1929 [1] – 27 January 2017) was an Austrian conductor and pianist.

Life

Born in Vienna, parallel to attending a Gymnasium, Bibl studied piano, clarinet, composition at the Wiener Musikakademie and attended the conducting class of Hans Swarowsky. From 1948, he was répétiteur at the Graz Opera. From 1960, he worked at the Vienna Raimundtheater and the Theater an der Wien. From 1969 to 1973, he was music director in Trier, from where he gave guest performances in France and Luxembourg.

From 1973, he was conductor at the Volksoper Wien, where he conducted over 2,200 performances, including Der Vogelhändler , Die lustige Witwe , Die Csárdásfürstin and Die Fledermaus . From 1995 to 2008, he was musical director of the Seefestspiele Mörbisch, for which he put together his own orchestra, the Symphonieorchester Burgenland, consisting of students from the Joseph-Haydn-Conservatory of the Province of Burgenland  [ de ].

Guest performances and concert tours abroad took him to Japan, Italy, Germany and France, for example, to the Berlin State Opera and the Opéra Bastille in Paris. [2] [3] At the Vienna State Opera, he conducted Die Fledermaus and Die lustige Witwe from 1999 to 2003. [4]

Bibl remained closely associated with the Vienna Volksoper until the end. In May 2016, he conducted three performances of Kálmán's Die Csárdásfürstin as part of a guest performance in Tokyo, his last conducting was a performance of Die Fledermaus on 1 January 2017. According to the house, he conducted 2273 performances at the Vienna Volksoper. [5]

Bibl died at the age of 87, in Frontignan, France. [6]

Bibl was the grandson of the composer and organist of the same name (1832–1902) and nephew of the historian Viktor Bibl. [1]

Alfred Jerger Austrian opera singer

Alfred Jerger was an Austrian operatic bass-baritone, who began his career as a conductor of operettas, and was also an interim director of the Vienna State Opera and a professor of the Vienna Music Academy. He appeared at the Salzburg Festival from 1922 to 1959, and created the leading role of Mandryka in Arabella by Richard Strauss, among others.

Ferry Gruber was an Austrian-German tenor in opera and operetta. A member of both the Bavarian State Opera and Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich for half a century, he focused on roles of the buffo genre and operetta. He made recordings, appeared on radio and television, performed internationally at major opera houses and festivals, and worked also as an operetta director and a private voice teacher. He was a favourite with the audience, and received the title Kammersänger.

Dorothea Chryst, also Dorli-Maria Chryst is a German operatic and operetta soprano.

Herbert "Happi" Prikopa was an Austrian television presenter, conductor, operatic tenor, actor, composer, writer, pianist and cabaret artist.

Seefestspiele Mörbisch Austrian operetta festival

The Seefestspiele Mörbisch, originally: Seespiele Mörbisch, is an annual operetta festival in Mörbisch am See (Austria). With around 150,000 visitors, the Mörbisch Lake Festival is the world's largest festival of the operetta genre. In addition to operettas, classical musicals are also performed on an irregular basis. Above all, the natural scenery of Neusiedler See is always incorporated into the stage set. The area is very flat, so transmission technology specially developed for the Lake Festival is used.

Vera Schoenenberg is a German soprano in opera, operetta, Lied and oratorio, and a lecturer at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

Guido Mancusi is an Austrian-Italian conductor and composer.

Franz Samohyl was an Austrian violinist, concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera and academic teacher.

Olivier Tambosi is an Austrian opera and operetta director.

Peter Edelmann is an Austrian operatic baritone. Since 1 January 2018, he has been the artistic director of the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
