Rukhsana Parveen (born 5 May 1992) [1] also spelled Rukhsana Perveen [2] is a female boxer from Pakistan. In 2016, she along with two other team mates became the first women boxers from Pakistan to compete in an international competition when they participated at the South Asian Games in Guwahati, India. [3] She was also included in the first ever team sent to the Asian Games.

Career

Parveen has stated that she was inspired to take up boxing after watching the biographical movie of the Indian boxer, Mary Kom. [4] She took up the sport in 2015 and had been coached by Nauman Karim for only eight months before she was selected to participate in the 2016 South Asian Games held in Guwahati, India. [4]

Representing Punjab, Parveen won gold in the light weight category at the First National Women Boxing Championship held in Lahore in 2018. [5]

South Asian Games

Parveen was being coached by Shehnaz Kamal [6] when she along with Khoushleem Bano and Sofia Javed were scouted by the Pakistan Boxing Federation and included into the team to compete at the 2016 South Asian Games held in Guwahati, India. Parveen reached the semi-finals in the 60 kg category and earned a bronze medal. [7] With this medal, she became the second Pakistani woman (after Sofia Javed) to win an international medal in boxing. At the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu, Nepal, Parveen repeated her performance by claiming another bronze but this time in the 64 kg category. [8]

Asian Games

To prepare for the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, Parveen along with five other women were part of a training camp held in the capital. Islamabad. [9] She along with Razia Bano was then selected [10] as part of Pakistan's first ever team to compete at the continental level where she participated in the 60 kg category. [11] [12] [13] In the round of 16 she lost to the Indian boxer, Pavitra. [2]

Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is an Indian Olympic boxer, politician, and former Member of Rajya Sabha. She is the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times, the only female boxer to have won a medal in each one of the first seven World Championships, and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she competed in the flyweight (51 kg) category and won a bronze medal. She had also been ranked as the world's No. 1 female light-flyweight by the International Boxing Association (amateur) (AIBA). Talha Talib is a Pakistani weightlifter from Gujranwala. He is the Pakistani national champion in the 62 kg category. He set a new record at the games in snatch as he lifted 132 kg in the third attempt with 127 kg and 130 kg in the first two attempts, respectively. He was also a gold medalist at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championships in Penang. He lifted 258 kg to clinch the gold. He is currently the top No. 1 ranked weightlifter of Pakistan.

Kaur won a bronze medal for India at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. She was a part of the Indian women's boxing contingent and won a gold medal at the Ahmet Comert International Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey in the 64 kg category. Baatth is the first female boxer from Punjab to participate in the Olympics. Simranjit won silver at the 2019 Asian Championships and bronze at the 2018 World Championships. She won gold medal at the Cologne Boxing World Cup in Germany.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 South Asian Games</span> XIV South Asian Games

The 2024 South Asian Games, officially the XIV South Asian Games, will be a major multi-sport event which will be held in Pakistan, and will have Lahore, the capital of Punjab province as main host city. The cities of Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Islamabad and Sialkot will give support to Lahore hosting some sports. The Games were scheduled to be held in March 2023, but later postponed to March 2024 by SAOC members at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This will mark the third time that Pakistan has hosted the South Asian Games since 1989 and 2004, and the first time that Pakistan has hosted the event outside of Islamabad.

The Pakistan women's national boxing team represents Pakistan in international boxing competitions. It is administered by the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF). The team competed internationally for the first time at the South Asian Games held in Guwahati, India in 2016. It debuted at the continental level at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2018.

The Pakistan women's national shooting team represents Pakistan in international shooting competitions. It is administered by the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP). Members of the team compete in both rifle and pistol events at competitions including the continental and regional games. In 2016, Minhal Sohail became the first woman sports shooter from Pakistan to compete at the Summer Olympic Games when she participated on a quota place at the Rio Games.

He made his international debut with 1970 British Commonwealth Games and represented the country in four Asian Games, including 1972 Summer Olympics, 1978 Asian boxing tournament and RCD Boxing Championship administered or organised by the Turkish Boxing Federation.
