Ruth Busia Adhiambo Odinga is a Kenyan politician and the women's representative for Kisumu County in the National Assembly. [1] She is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). She is the daughter to Jaramogi Odinga,the first vice president of Kenya,and the sister of both former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Oburu Odinga,the serving Senator for Siaya County. [2] [3]
Ruth Odinga is a politician born into a Kenyan political dynasty,. [2] She attended Xaverian Primary School,Kisumu where she obtained her East African Certificate of Primary Education (EACPE) in 1973. She obtained her East African Advanced Certificate of Education (EAACE) from The Kenya High school in 1981. In 1983 she attended the Mutare Girls High School,Zimbabwe,where she gained her A Levels. She obtained a degree in social science in 1985,and a postgraduate certificate in development studies in 1989,from the University of Oslo. [4]
Ruth Odinga is a former Deputy Governor of Kisumu County and founding chairperson of the Kenya Network of Women Governors (KENWOG). [5] She is the younger sister of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga
Odinga entered politics in 2013,running against Jack Ranguma to be Governor of Kisumu County. [6] After losing to Ranguma,she joined his team and served as his Deputy Governor from 2013 to 2017. [7] She was the senior advisor to the Governor and director of Special Programs and Disaster Management from 2017 to 2022. [4]
In October 2017 she faced charges after taking part in protest against the election officials in Kisumu. [8] [9] In 2019,after her presence at a protest disrupting election training in Kisumu,there were again calls for her to be arrested and charged with incitement to violence. [10]
She was elected the Kisumu County Women Representative in August 2022 using the Orange Democratic Movement ticket defeating her competitor Valentine Anyango of the Movement for Democracy and Growth party (MDG). [11]
Odinga is a women’s rights activist and advocate for women's development and women in leadership. She is the founder of the Kenya Network of Women Governors (KEWOG), [4] and continues to act as its chair. [12] She is also the recipient of a Gender Champion Award from the Kenyan Department of Gender. [4]
Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga was a Kenyan politician who became a prominent figure in Kenya's struggle for independence. He served as Kenya's first vice-president,and thereafter as opposition leader. Odinga's son Raila Odinga is a former prime minister,and another son,Oburu Odinga,is a former assistant minister in the Ministry of Finance.

Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election,representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. Local elections were held in Kisumu to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution,which was passed in a 2010 referendum,the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates.
The Kisumu massacre occurred when the presidential guard and police forces shot and killed several civilians in Kisumu Town,the capital of Nyanza Province in Kenya. This took place on 25 October 1969. The official death toll from government sources stands at 11 fatalities but other sources place this number at closer to 100. Victims included women and children,some of whom were shot 30–50 km away from the epicentre of the riots. According to media reports,the government of the day attempted to cover up the extent of the massacre.

Kondele is the most densely populated of the three satellite towns of Kisumu metropolitan region,the others being Maseno and Ahero. It is Kisumu City's most notable region and cultural identifier and one of the most densely populated regions in Kisumu County,Kenya. It lies on the A1 road that connects Kisumu and Vihiga. The town is administered by the Kondele County Assembly ward,an administrative ward which is part of the wards that represent Kisumu Central constituency in Kisumu county assembly. The ward is represented by the Kondele Member of County Assembly.
The 2018 Kenya handshake was a political truce made on 9 March 2018 between Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The two had been the leaders of opposing political factions amidst widespread political violence and civil unrest;they had previously faced one another in the contested 2017 Kenyan general election. Under the agreement,their political feud with an agreement that Kenyatta would support Odinga in the upcoming presidential elections. Consequently,the Azimio coalition was formed,Uhuru became its chairman,and Odinga became the presidential candidate with Martha Karua as his running mate. They lost to William Ruto,who was then Kenyatta's deputy. They challenged Ruto's victory in the Supreme Court,but Chief Justice Martha Koome said his claims did not meet the evidentiary threshold and dismissed the case. At a March 2023 protest in Nairobi they demanded an audit of the IEBC election servers.

Peninnah Gathoni Muchomba popularly known as Gathoni Wa Mucomba is a Kenyan journalist,entrepreneur and politician. She is the Member of Parliament for Githunguri Constituency in the bicameral Kenyan parliament since 2022 and a member of the ruling party,UDA. She formerly vied and won the Kiambu women representative post in the 2017 General election. Gathoni garnered 922,829 votes from Kiambu county constituents becoming the third highest candidate with the majority votes after President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
