Ryan Bertin (born November 13, 1981) is an American former folkstyle wrestler. He competed for the University of Michigan, and won NCAA Division I wrestling titles at 157 pounds in 2003 and 2005. [1]
He is the son of Laurie and Chris Bertin, who wrestled for the University of Cincinnati (1973–74). He attended St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, where he was a state and high school national champion. He finished with a career record of 140-18 and was coached by Greg Urbas. [2] He also played soccer for two years (1997, 1998), earning varsity letters. Bertin graduated in 2000. [3]
Bertin attended University of Michigan, with fellow St. Edward wrestling star Andy Hrovat. He was reshirted his freshman year. He competed at the 157 lbs. weight class and was a 4-time All-American. In 2002, he finished sixth. He was the NCAA National Champion in 2003. In 2004, he placed third. In 2005, he won his second NCAA National title. [4] Upon winning his second NCAA championship, Bertin announced that he wrestled his last match. He never won a Big Ten championship title. [5] However, he was the 2005 Big Ten Wrestler of the Year. He finished his collegiate career with a 142-21 record, which ranks fifth all-time for the Wolverines. [6]
In the fall of 2006, Bertin became an assistant coach at Northwestern University, where his brother Kyle wrestled.
The Michigan Wolverines comprise 29 varsity sports teams at the University of Michigan. These teams compete in the NCAA's Division I and in the Big Ten Conference in all sports except women's water polo, which competes in the NCAA inter-divisional Collegiate Water Polo Association. Team colors are maize and blue, though these are different shades of "maize" and "blue" from those used by the university at large. The winged helmet is a recognized icon of Michigan Athletics.
The Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving teams represent the University of Michigan in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. The men's and women's teams, which had been coached separately, were combined in August 2012 by the University of Michigan Athletic Department.
Marcia Anne Pankratz is an American former field hockey forward and current head coach for the Michigan Wolverines. Pankratz participated in two Summer Olympics. In 1988 she finished in eighth position with Team USA, in 1996 she claimed the fifth spot. Pankratz had 110 international appearances over the course of her career.

Andy Hrovat is an American former freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. In college, he was a 3-time NCAA wrestling All-American and later wrestled for the U.S. Team in freestyle wrestling at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Geena Gall, is an Olympic American mid-distance runner who ran for the University of Michigan. Gall's achievements include back to back NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m in 2008 and 2009, representing the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany in the 800m. She also competed at the North American Central American Caribbean Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador in 2007 and Toluca, Mexico in 2008. Gall was a member of the "Fab Four" who set two collegiate records at the 2007 Penn Relays, a ten-time NCAA All-American, owning two Big Ten 800 meter records and two DMR records, 10 Big Ten championships, numerous U of M school records, and at Grand Blanc High School she was a three-time national champion.
The Michigan Wolverines baseball team represents the University of Michigan in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Michigan athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Big Ten Conference. They play their home games at Ray Fisher Stadium.
Harold Nichols was an American collegiate wrestler and wrestling coach. As a coach, primarily at Iowa State, he won six NCAA Championships over 37 seasons. Nichols' wrestlers won 38 NCAA individual championships and seven medals at the Olympics.

Carol Sue Hutchins is an American former softball coach. In 38 years as the head coach of Michigan Wolverines softball, (1985–2022), she won more games than more than any other coach in University of Michigan history in any sport, male or female with 1,684 wins. Hutchins had a career record of 1,707 wins, 551 losses, and five ties, for a .759 winning percentage. She led the Wolverines to their first NCAA softball championship in 2005.
Beverly "Bev" Jean Plocki is an American gymnastics coach, and the current coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team. In 32 years as the head coach at Michigan, her teams have a record of 830–263–4 and have won 25 Big Ten Conference championships, and advanced to 25 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, including 16 straight NCAA championship tournaments from 1993 to 2008. Plocki led her team to the NCAA Championship in 2021, the first championship won by a Big Ten Conference team.

The Michigan Wolverines softball team represents the University of Michigan in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I competition. College softball became a varsity sport at the University of Michigan in 1978. Bonnie Tholl has been the head coach since 2023, following the retirement of longtime head coach Carol Hutchins. In 2005, Hutchins' team became the first Division I softball team since 1976 from east of the Mississippi River to win the Women's College World Series.
The Michigan Wolverines men's lacrosse team is the intercollegiate men's lacrosse program representing the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the NCAA, Michigan competed as a club-varsity program at the Division I level of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA), where the Wolverines secured three MCLA national championships and won 11 consecutive conference titles. The team is coached by Kevin Conry.

Alec William Pantaleo is an American freestyle wrestler and graduated folkstyle wrestler who competes at 70 kilograms. In freestyle, he is the defending U.S. Open champion, was the 2021 Pan American Continental champion, claimed the 2021 Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series and the 2021 Poland Open titles, earned silver and bronze medals at the U.S. Open, and was a 2019 U23 U.S. team member. As a folkstyle wrestler, Pantaleo was a three-time NCAA DI All-American and a Big Ten Conference champion out of the University of Michigan.
The 2010 Michigan Wolverines men's soccer team represented the University of Michigan during the 2010 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It was the 11th season the university fielded a men's varsity soccer team, and their 11th season in the Big Ten Conference. The team was coached by 11th year head coach Steve Burns. The Wolverines finished the season 17–5–3, setting a program record for wins.
The Canham Natatorium is a swimming facility on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The facility is used by the Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving and women's water polo teams.
Mason Parris is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 125 kilograms. In freestyle, he claimed the 2019 World Junior Wrestling Championships gold medal. As a folkstyle wrestler, he was the 2023 NCAA Division I national and Big Ten Conference champion at 285 pounds for the Michigan Wolverines, and the Dan Hodge Trophy winner.
