SABMiller was one of the top five global brewing companies, [1] [2] and had a range of over 150 beers, including international beers such as Pilsner Urquell , and Miller Genuine Draft, and local ones such as Gambrinus and Castle Milk Stout. [3]

The company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev in October 2016 and sold off its interest in MillerCoors to Molson Coors as required by regulators in the U.S. [4] [5] The new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, is trading on the Brussels Stock Exchange as ABI.BR and as BUD on the New York stock exchange. [6] [7] [8]

After the merger between Anheuser Busch Inbev and SABMiller, the new Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV company owns over 200 beer brands including Budweiser and Bud Light, Corona, Stella Artois, Beck's, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Skol, Brahma, Antarctica, Quilmes, Victoria, Modelo Especial, Michelob Ultra, Harbin, Sedrin, Klinskoye, Sibirskaya Korona, Chernigivske, Cass and Jupiler. Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV also owns a soft drinks business that has bottling contracts with PepsiCo through its subsidiary, AmBev. [6] In December 2016, Coca-Cola Co. bought many of the former SABMiller's Coca-Cola operations. [9]

Botswana brewery

Chibuku Shake Shake (so called because it separates out and must be shaken) is brewed from a mix of sorghum and maize, and sold in paper cartons or 2 litre brown plastic containers with a wide blue lid. [11] [12] [13]

Canarias Brewery

The Canarias Brewery was formed in 1994 from the merger of two Canary Island breweries, CCC and SICAL, both of whom had been established at the start of the 20th century. [14] The brewery produces the beers Dorada and Tropical, [15] and brews under licence various global beers such as Carlsberg, Pilsner Urquell and Guinness.

Castle brewery

Castle Brewery was founded in Johannesburg in 1894. It later merged with other breweries to form South African Breweries (SAB) which subsequently became SABMiller. Castle Brewery is still a division of SAB but is now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV.

This company (Dreher Sörgyárak) in Budapest was owned by SABMiller. After acquiring SABMiller, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV agreed on 21 December 2016 to sell Dreher to [Asahi Breweries] of Japan. [16]

Kompania Piwowarska (which in Polish means "Brewing Company") is a brewing company established in Poland in 1999 as a result of the merger of two SABMiller owned Polish breweries, the Lech brewery in Poznań, and the Tyskie Górny Śląsk brewery in Tychy, which was founded in 1629. [17] The company also owns the Dojlidy Brewery in Białystok. The three breweries have a total capacity of 15.1 million hectolitres. [18] SAB purchased a majority share in the Lech and Tyskie breweries in 1995. [19] Kompania Piwowarska currently controls 45% of the Polish beer market. [20]

After acquiring SABMiller, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV agreed on 21 December 2016 to sell Kompania Piwowarska to Asahi Breweries of Japan. [16]

Radegast Brewery is a brewery located in Nošovice, Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic since 1970. The beer is named after the god Radegast. The brewery has been owned by Pilsner Urquell since 1999, which in turn was owned by SABMiller. On 21 December 2016, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV agreed to sell Pilsner Urquell to Asahi Breweries Group Holdings, Ltd. [16]

Other breweries

Miller Brewing Company beers

All of the Miller brands and subsidiaries were sold to Molson Coors on October 11, 2016 as required by regulators before the forming of the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV. [23] [24] [25] All of those brands are now made by Miller Brewing Company, a subsidiary of MillerCoors.

Non-beer brands

SABMiller was one of the world's largest Coca-Cola bottlers and had carbonated soft drinks bottling operations in 14 markets. In December 2016, Coca-Cola Co. bought many of the Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV company's Coca-Cola operations. The affected regions include Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, El Salvador and Honduras. The deal requires regulatory approval and should close by the end of 2017. [9]

SABMiller plc was a South African multinational brewing and beverage company headquartered in Woking, England on the outskirts of London until 10 October 2016 when it was acquired by AB InBev. Prior to that date, it was the world's second-largest brewer measured by revenues and was also a major bottler of Coca-Cola. Its brands included Foster's, Miller, and Pilsner Urquell. It operated in 80 countries worldwide and in 2009 sold around 21 billion litres of beverages. Since 10 October 2016, SABMiller is a business division of AB InBev, a Belgian multinational corporation with headquarters in Leuven.

Tyskie is a Polish brand of beer. Its name comes from the brewery located in the Upper Silesian town of Tychy. It is brewed by the Tychy Princely Brewery, part of the Kompania Piwowarska brewery group, which was acquired by Asahi Group Holdings in 2017.

Castle Brewery is one of the oldest commercial breweries in South Africa. As company-endorsed legend would have it, the company was founded by Charles Glass in Johannesburg in 1894. UCT history professor Anne Kelk Mager has argued that the official SAB story overemphasized the role of Charles and that it was his wife Lisa Glass who was primarily responsible for the creation of Castle. It later merged with other breweries to form South African Breweries, which still later merged with Miller of the United States to form SABMiller.

Beer has a long history in what is now the Czech Republic, with brewing taking place in Břevnov Monastery in 993. The city of Brno had the right to brew beer from the 12th century while Plzeň and České Budějovice, had breweries in the 13th century.

Kompania Piwowarska is a Polish brewing group based in Poznań, established in 1999. Since 2017 it has been owned by Asahi Breweries. Kompania Piwowarska currently has three breweries: Lech Browary Wielkopolski in Poznań, Tyskie Browary Książęce in Tychy and Browar Dojlidy in Białystok. Tyskie Browary Książęce, one of the oldest breweries in Europe, was founded in 1629.

Plzeňský Prazdroj, a. s., known in English as the Pilsner Urquell Brewery, is a Czech brewery opened in 1842 and headquartered in Plzeň, Czech Republic. It was the first brewery to produce pale lager, branded as Pilsner Urquell, which became so popular and was so much copied that more than two-thirds of the beer produced in the world today is pale lager, sometimes named pils, pilsner and pilsener after Pilsner Urquell. The brewery name, Pilsner Urquell, which can be roughly translated into English as "the original source at Pilsen", was adopted as a trademark in 1898. Pilsner Urquell is the largest producer and exporter of beer in the Czech Republic.

Velkopopovický Kozel is a Czech lager produced since 1874. The brewery was founded in Velké Popovice, a town 25 km (15 mi) southeast of Prague. Their symbol is a goat. The company was bought by SABMiller in 2002 and sold to Asahi Breweries in 2016.

Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV is the largest beer company in the world. It had 200 brands prior to the merger with SABMiller on October 10, 2016. The combined ABInBev/SAB Miller entity has approximately 400 beer brands as of January 2017.

MillerCoors was a beer brewing company in the United States. MillerCoors was formed in 2008 as a joint venture between SABMiller and Molson Coors to combine their brewing, marketing and sales operations in the United States. The company was acquired by Molson Coors in 2016. In 2019 it was announced that MillerCoors and Molson Coors Canada would be consolidated into a single business unit under the name Molson Coors North America.

Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, commonly known as AB InBev, is a Belgian multinational drink and brewing company based in Leuven, Belgium. AB InBev has a global functional management office in New York City, and regional headquarters in São Paulo, London, St. Louis, Mexico City, Bremen, Johannesburg, and others. It has approximately 630 beer brands in 150 countries.

InBev was a brewing company that resulted from the merger between Belgium-based company Interbrew and Brazilian brewer AmBev which took place in 2004. It existed independently until the acquisition of Anheuser-Busch in 2008, which formed Anheuser-Busch InBev. InBev had operations in over 30 countries and sales in over 130 countries. In 2006, it had a market capitalization of €30.6 billion and net profit of €3.2 billion on sales of €13.3 billion.

Żubr beer is a Polish lager brewed by the Kompania Piwowarska SA. It was formerly known as Dojlidy, the name of the brewery in the Białystok district of Dojlidy, where it is produced.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dreher Breweries</span>

Dreher (Kőbánya) Brewery in Budapest is owned by Asahi Breweries. Its main products are the Dreher Gold, Arany Ászok and Kőbányai Világos pilsener-style lagers but it also brews Dreher Bak, a full-bodied dark beer with a slight taste of caramel.
