Sportsklubben Vidar is a Norwegian sports club from Oslo. It has sections for track and field, triathlon, and archery.
The club was founded in 1919. [1] It was later a member of the Workers' Sports Federation before the war. [2]
It arranges Oslo Marathon, and also the Grete Waitz Run from 1984 to 2003 and the cross-country skiing race Vidar Run from 1933 to 1993. Together with the clubs IK Tjalve and IL i BUL it forms the "Bislett Alliance", which arranges the Bislett Games. [1] The Bislett Alliance also hosted the Norwegian Championships in 2006. [3]
SK Vidar has been an important club in the men's javelin throw event for many years. Terje Pedersen took his first of four Norwegian championships in 1960, and later set a world record. Per Erling Olsen won in the years 1980 through 1984, and Øystein Slettevold in 1986. Andreas Thorkildsen won his first Olympic title, in 2004, while representing Vidar and became Norwegian champion in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 while representing the club. Other athletes have won national silver and bronze medals, including Thorkildsen's coach Åsmund Martinsen who won bronze in 1994. [4] Solfrid Haug, Anne Grete Bæraas and Unn Merete Lie have won the women's javelin titles. [5]
Another prominent thrower is Mette Bergmann, who represented Vidar and won national titles in the years from 1991 through 2000. [6] For men, Svein Inge Valvik and Olav Jenssen have won national gold for Vidar. [7] Bergmann and Lie have hammer throw titles for women; so do the brothers Anders and Bjørnar Halvorsen for men. [8] [9] The club has been less successful in the shot put, with only one national gold (Roar Hoff, 1992). Young talent Leif Olve Dolonen Larsen represented the club before going on to other sports. In the road relay Holmenkollstafetten the women's team has won ten times, but never the men. [11]
Grete Waitz was a Norwegian marathon runner and former world record holder. In 1979, at the New York City Marathon, she became the first woman in history to run the marathon in under two and a half hours. Waitz won nine New York City Marathons, women's division, between 1978 and 1988, the highest number of victories in a single big city marathon in history. She won the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and a gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. She was also a five-time winner of the World Cross Country Championships.
Andreas Thorkildsen is a retired Norwegian track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. He was the Olympic Champion in 2004 and 2008, European Champion in 2006 and 2010, and World Champion in 2009. He is the first male javelin thrower in history to simultaneously be European, World and Olympic Champion. He was also a three-time silver medalist at the World Championships, placing second in 2005, 2007 and 2011. His personal best of 91.59 m, set in 2006, is the Norwegian record.
The Bislett Games is an annual track and field meeting at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway. Previously one of the IAAF Golden League events, it is now part of the Diamond League.

Karen Fladset is a Norwegian former team handball player and coach. She played for the club IL Vestar and the Norway women's national handball team. With Vestar she became Norwegian Champion both as player and coach, and she was top scorer in the Norwegian league for four seasons. After her playing career she was head coach for the national team for two years, and later coach for various clubs. She was a Norway champion in discus throw three times.
