People mover fully automated transit system, generally serving relatively small areas such as airports, downtown districts or theme parks

A people mover or automated people mover (APM) is a type of small scale automated guideway transit system. The term is generally used only to describe systems serving relatively small areas such as airports, downtown districts or theme parks.

Automated guideway transit

The automated guideway transit (AGT) is a fully automated, driverless, grade-separated transit system in which vehicles are automatically guided along a guideway. The vehicles are often rubber tired or steel wheeled, but other systems including air cushion and maglev systems have also been used in experiments. The guideway normally provides both physical support, like a road, as well as the guidance. In the case of fixed-route systems, the two are often the same in the same way that a rail line provides both support and guidance for a train. For systems with multiple routes, most AGT systems use smaller wheels riding on the guideway to steer the vehicle using conventional steering arrangements like those on a car.

Elevated railway rapid transit railway with the tracks above street level

An elevated railway is a rapid transit railway with the tracks above street level on a viaduct or other elevated structure. The railway may be broad gauge, standard gauge, narrow gauge, light rail, monorail, or a suspension railway. Elevated railways are usually used in urban areas where there would otherwise be a large number of level crossings. Most of the time, the tracks of elevated railways that run on steel viaducts can be seen from street level.

Crystal Mover

The Crystal Mover is an automated people mover (APM) system for airport and light rail applications manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Mihara, Japan. The Crystal Mover is based on the Japanese APM standard, used in six Japanese automated guideway transit systems including the Yurikamome and the Rokko Island Line.

DFW Skylink

Skylink is an automated people mover (APM) operating at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). It is an application of the Bombardier Innovia APM 200 system manufactured by Bombardier Transportation, and continues to be maintained and operated by Bombardier. When it opened, it was the world's largest airport train system. Sixty-four Skylink trains are in service at DFW Airport.

Airport Transit System

The Airport Transit System (ATS) is an automated people mover system at Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

Skyway (George Bush Intercontinental Airport)

Skyway is a people mover system operating at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. The system is 0.7 miles (1.1 km) long, and runs along the north side of the airport, beyond airport security. The system serves all of the airport's five terminals, with four stations at Terminal A, Terminal B, Terminal C, and International Terminal D/E, respectively. Skyway is one of two people movers currently operating at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The other people mover opened in 1969 and is known as the Subway.

The Plane Train

The Plane Train is an automated people mover (APM) at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport that transports passengers between the terminals and the airside concourses. The system is the world's most heavily traveled airport APM, with 64 million riders as of 2002.

Pittsburgh International Airport People Movers

The Pittsburgh International Airport People Mover is a fully automated people mover system at the Pittsburgh International Airport serving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Designed and installed at a cost of $14 million by Adtranz, it runs in two parallel underground tunnels to connect the landside terminal with the airside terminal.

McCarran International Airport Automated People Movers

The McCarran International Airport People Movers are three separate automatic people mover systems operating at McCarran International Airport near Las Vegas, Nevada. The people mover system consists of three separate lines: the Green Line connecting the Main Terminal to the C Gate Concourse, the Blue Line connecting the Main Terminal to the D Gate Concourse, and the Red Line connecting the D Gates Concourse to Terminal 3.

Bombardier Innovia APM 200

The Bombardier Innovia APM 200 is an automated people mover system (APM) manufactured by Bombardier Transportation. The Innovia APM 200 is the successor to the Bombardier Innovia APM 100 and succeeded by Innovia APM 300. Designed as Bombardier's response to the popularity of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Crystal Mover, the advancements the Innovia APM 200 made over the Innovia APM 100 is a brand new aerodynamic design, allowing for greater speeds and tighter turns. The Bombardier Innovia features a full composite construction, and is offered with multiple end cap options.

Adtranz C-100

The C-100 was an automated people mover rolling stock first developed by Westinghouse Transportation Systems, which later became AEG-Westinghouse, AEG Transportation, and eventually Adtranz. A pioneer in the development of automated guideway transit, it was succeeded by Bombardier Transportation's CX-100, which is found at many airports today. The newer CX-100 is capable of using most of the existing infrastructure of the C-100, making it easy to upgrade to the newer vehicles. Because of this, production of the C-100 ceased upon Bombardier's acquisition of Adtranz in 2000.

Bombardier Innovia Monorail

Innovia Monorail is the name given to fully automated and driverless monorail system manufactured by Bombardier Transportation. Its straddle-beam design is based on the ALWEG monorail, which was first developed in the 1950s and later popularized by Disney at their theme parks.

Madrid Barajas Airport People Mover

The Madrid Barajas Airport People Mover is the first driverless transit system in Spain and the longest airport people mover system in Europe began transporting passengers between the new terminal (T4) and a new satellite terminal (T4S) of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport in Madrid.

The Dubai International Airport Automated People Mover is a driverless people mover located within Dubai International Airport. It operates in two "segments" within Terminal 3 and Concourse A & B, often referred to as the Terminal 3 APM, and between Terminals 1 and Concourse D will referred to as the Terminal 1 APM.

Orlando International Airport People Movers

The Orlando International Airport People Movers are a set of automated guideway transit (AGT) people mover systems operating within Orlando International Airport. The four original people mover systems connect the airport’s main terminal to four satellite airside concourses. A fifth AGT people mover system was installed in 2017 to connect the main terminal with the airport’s new Intermodal Terminal.

Tampa International Airport People Movers

The Tampa International Airport People Movers are a set of automated people mover systems operating within Tampa International Airport. The primary set of people movers are automated guideway transit (AGT) systems that connect the airport’s main terminal to four satellite airside concourses. Opened in 1971, it is the first automated people mover system in the world built within an airport. A monorail has run between the main terminal and the long-term parking garage since 1991. A fifth AGT line known as SkyConnect began operating in 2018, and connects the main terminal with the airport’s economy parking garage and rental car center.
