The Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy Cherian (born 26 August 1961) is the 13th Bishop of the Madhya Kerala Diocese. [1]

Early life and education

Cherian's father M. K. Cherian was a retired teacher from CMS High School, Kuzhikkala, and mother Aleyamma Cherian was also a retired teacher from Government High School, Kozhencherry. He earned BSc in Mathematics, PGDCA, B.Ed, and MA in Sociology. Later he received his Bachelor of Divinity (BD) from UBS, Pune and Doctor of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary. [2]

Ecclesiastical career

Cherian was ordained as a deacon of the CSI in 1988 and a presbyter in 1989. He was elected as the Treasurer of the Diocese of Madhya Kerala in 2014 for three years. Being the Treasurer, he introduced centralized salary system for all clergy and evangelists, took special care to protect and safeguard the Diocesan property, successfully managed diocesan Bi-centenary celebrations and 35th session of CSI Synod meeting during the demonetization period, renewed rental agreements of the shopping complex tenants, which was pending for decades, in line with the current market rates. [2] He was consecrated as the 13th Bishop of the Church of South India Madhya Kerala diocese at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kottayam on 18 January 2021 by CSI Moderator A. Dharmaraj Rasalam.[ citation needed ]

South Kerala Diocese is a diocese of the Church of South India which consists of CSI churches in Trivandrum and Kollam districts of Kerala. It is one of the biggest dioceses in the Church of South India. In April 2015, a part of the diocese was removed to form a new diocese, the Kollam-Kottarakkara Diocese. In Kerala, there were, until April 2015, three other CSI Dioceses viz: North Kerala Diocese, Madhya Kerala Diocese, East Kerala Diocese. Diocese of Madhya Kerala of the Church of South India

The Madhya Kerala Diocese is one of the twenty-four dioceses of the Church of South India covering the central part of Kerala. When the Church of South India was formed on 27 September 1947, the diocese was called the Diocese of Central Travancore. Oommen George 21st-century Indian bishop

Oommen George is the Bishop of the Kollam-Kottarakkara Diocese of Church of South India. He was the former clergy secretary of CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese and the vicar of Ascension Church Kanjikkuzhy when he was selected as the first bishop of Kollam - Kottarakkara Diocese. He is the son of late K C George Upadeshi, Malayil, Punnakadu an evangelist of the CSI Church and Mallappally Panavelil Rachel. Aleyamma Oommen is his wife and Diana, Lida and Leena are his daughters.

Saint Thomas Anglicans are the Saint Thomas Christian members of the Church of South India; the self-governing South Indian province of the Anglican Communion. They are among the several different ecclesiastical communities that splintered out of the once undivided Saint Thomas Christians; an ancient Christian community whose origins goes back to the first century missionary activities of Saint Thomas the Apostle, in the present-day South Indian state of Kerala.
