The Salmon River is a river in the north of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Its headwaters lie in Strathcona Park. It flows northwest, through the Sayward Valley into Kelsey Bay next to the village of Sayward before finally entering Johnstone Strait. The river supports steelhead and several species of Pacific salmon. [1]

Kelsey Bay

Kelsey Bay is a small coastal settlement located in the Sayward Valley on northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia about 1 mi from the community of Sayward. The wharf at Kelsey Bay was previously the southern terminus for the B.C. Ferries Inside Passage route until 1978, when Highway 19 was extended north to Port Hardy and the terminus relocated there. Kelsey Bay is part of the Village of Sayward.

Sayward Valley is a low-lying area in northeastern Vancouver Island. It is occupied by a floodplain of the Salmon River. The soils there have variable drainage and are mostly of loam texture. Upland soils in the valley have clay loam to gravelly loamy sand texture and show podzol profile development in most cases.

Battlement Mesa Forest Reserve was established by the General Land Office in Colorado on December 24, 1892 with 858,240 acres (3,473.2 km2). The Adam's main tributary is the Eve River. The Kwak'wala name for the river is He-la-de, meaning "land of plenty", a reference to abundant berries, birds, game and salmon. That name is reflected in that of Haylahte Indian Reserve No. 3, which is on the east bank of the Adam's mouth. The former Matilpi village of Klaywatse was located on an island in the river's estuary.

The Claud Elliott Creek Ecological Reserve is located southwest of the junction of Claud Elliott Creek and the Tsitsika River on northern Vancouver Island, southwest of the community of Sayward. The reserve, which was created to protect representative old-growth montane forests, was established in 1989, comprising approximately 231 hectares. It was expanded slightly in 2004 to a current total area of approximately 233 hectares.

Butcher Creek is a stream in southern Lincoln County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary to Crooked Creek.
