The Sand Hills are a mountain range in Washoe County, Nevada. [1] The highest peak is Granite Peak; bounded on the west by Petersen mountain, the Porcupine Mountains and Lees Flat, on the south by Freds Mountain and on the east by Bedell Flat. [2]

It is in the northern Nevada section of the Great Basin with a lakebed that is a dry remnant of Pleistocene Lake Lahontan.

Nevada State Route 431 Highway in Nevada

State Route 431, commonly known as the Mount Rose Highway, is a 24.413-mile-long (39.289 km) two-lane highway in Washoe County, Nevada, that connects Incline Village at Lake Tahoe with Reno. The highway, a Nevada Scenic Byway, takes its name from Mount Rose, which lies just off the highway. Prior to 1976, the highway existed as State Route 27.

The peak is on public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management and thus has no access restrictions. A National Weather Service NEXRAD doppler weather radar station is located on the summit.

Hope Valley (California)

Hope Valley is a broad montane valley in Alpine County, California, located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada to the northeast of Carson Pass and south of Lake Tahoe. The valley served as a major thoroughfare for the passage of settlers and emigrants to and from California during the Gold Rush era. Sitting at an elevation of just above 7,000 feet (2,100 m) and framed by peaks reaching over 10,000 feet (3,000 m) high, Hope Valley is known for its wide vistas, fly fishing, fall colors, and winter activities.
